Default Most Preferred Sticky Economic Tires - 12-03-2018, 07:51 AM

Hi all! I'm replacing the Michelin A/S3+'s that were on my car when I bought it. I've modded it fairly substantially (see sig), in the ballpark of 500whp now and will be upgrading to Spec 3+ clutch and SMFW soon. I'm looking for a stickier, higher performance (but economical) summer tire.

I don't do any autocross, rarely race from digs (mostly 40/60 rolls), drive spirited occasionally but am overall fairly conservative, this is my daily driver.

I'm caught right now between 4 different tires. I'm partial toward a couple of them, but want to see what the community thinks. Also, if you have any other recommendations in this price range, don't hesitate to comment. Thanks!

Continential Extreme Contact Sports if you want to spend money. Federal 595RS-RR if you don't. The Federals suck in rain and are noisy, but they grip well for the price.

The Hankooks are overpriced IMO. Good in the rain, but don't grip the best.

The Conti's are only about $60 more for all 4 - a negligible difference if they're truly a better tire. Like I said, this is my daily, so the road noise of the Fed's is a little bit of a concern. Is the grip/wear about the same between the two?

I have both Federal 595RS-RR in 275/35/19 square and Conti ECS in 275/35/19 F | 295/35/19 R stagger. My car is pushing 572 whp, and I absolute DO NOT recommend the Conti ECS for any serious runs.

The 595RS-RR are legit tires, but sizes are very limited (max size is 275/35/19). They are very loud for regular driving, but dry grip is superb once they're warmed up.

Look into Michelin PS4S or Bridgestone S007A instead.

General G-max RS

A friend has Nitto G2's on his SRT8 (275F/315R) and they are nice as well but more expensive.

Definitely leaning toward the RS-RR's. After the clutch/flywheel I'm going to re-flash for e85 and at that point I'll be in the same range as you (upper 500's). Already going to be dealing with some chatter from the SMFW, might as well get used to tire noise too. The sacrifices we must make for this kind of power I suppose

Of those listed above, I'm mostly torn between the RS-RR's and Nitto G2's. The Nitto's are only about $60 more for the set, so I'm not too worried about it. Just want the most bang for my buck

Edit: Didn't think to look on Amazon for tires. Just found a whole set of Federals for $472. The Nittos for $600

Just saw this. I've run those Contis on 4 different cars. Best tire you can get for the price. That said, I run Pirelli PZeros on my X3. Way stickier, but way, way, more expensive.

I have recently tried the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, I am very surprised with the results. It is the best tire I have tried for street traction other than when i ran NT05R drag radials as a daily.
