Default Maintenance while engine is out of car - 05-15-2020, 02:51 PM

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I'm finally nearing my full return to the N54 community. I picked up an engine to replace my knocking engine today. It's got 68k, and the CARFAX makes it out to be a dealer-serviced engine with minimal issues.

It's sitting in the garage right now, awaiting a thorough cleaning and maintenance. In the meantime, I'm seeking a comprehensive list of what I should take care of while I have unrestricted access to the engine.

So far my list includes:

Valve Cover Gasket
Oil Pan Gasket
OFHG
Turbos (Stage 3s )
HPFP

That's all that comes to mind for me, so if anyone else here has suggestions, I'm all ears! TIA

I done the same thing while mine was out so any leak would be the last issue. I done rod bearings and arp bolts while it was out. Every o ring was done, even the cooling hoses. Some tips along the way, prepare for anything! I used never seize on every bolt, the turbo oil and coolant hoses, plugs and of course Eldor coils. I removed all those pinch hose clamps, and replaced it with ss worm clamps. I added two 2g grounds, and ditched the factory one. All new pullies, and tensioner, and a aluminum ps pully. Don’t forget all new exhaust studs, and nuts.

Rear main seal, water pump if that is an original at 68k, maybe belts.
