Good progress Rob, looking forward to seeing more. I'm always blown away looking at the stock frame to see how restrictive they are and seeing alternative designs to maximize flow.

I'm doing my turbos in 2 months. Would love to get these as well as the intake piping. As long as they all fit a 535XI, and of course, will be ready in time.

Will stock turbos be able to provide enough pressure to make these worth the purchase? I'm seeing threads that claim installing a larger FMIC is causing stock turbos not being able to reach boost targets.

It would be Great if you sold a total Stage 2 turbo kit(inlets, hotside CP, turbos) cause you mine as well just take my credit card number now. Will this Hotside CP be in the stock locations? I have AWD and I wonder if my front axles will get in the way of this upgrade.

You must be a fortune teller! Much more to come than just that as well.

As for the hot side modification in this thread yes it will work with any N54 to the best of my knowledge. The only wildcard will be as always Intercooler choices and how they configured their respective hot side interface. I am saying that just to be forthright, as it could be another factor, not to generate a bunch of questions about every possible Intercooler compatibility. We have configured the sample to accommodate numerous styles to the best of our ability for now. So please all be patient for further answers in that regard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the primary restriction in the outlet ***** in the piece where it clamps to the turbo? I see you are reusing these pieces, so what's the point?

Not all will see eye to eye on this matter. So rather than waging a war, we will just provide the specs for those inquiring minds to deduce their own opinion:

1) Compressor housing outlet ID- 1.025"
2) Chargepipe flange ID- 1.060" (which immediately tapers up to tubing ID) NOTE: This is already .035" bigger than the compressor housing interface, and .275" bigger a mere .5" later.
3) Chargepipe tubing ID- 1.300"
4) RB Silicone ID- 1.5" to 1.75" to 2.5" merger

In my opinion the restrictions (beyond the housing itself) of the charge pipe are in the dimples and merger, which this modification will replace in its entirety.

Thanks,
Rob

Can you show a better picture of the "Y" pipe. The angles look too far apart from the pics above.

It's just a tacked together piece of work sample. It all aligns right as it was all mocked up on a car. The merger is going to be great once all in silicone so no worries. Can't take more pictures though as it's already been shipped off.

Certainly no more than $250 with all 3 Stainless T-bolts clamps.

Thanks,
Rob

I like the fact that most of it is metal pipe, but half of it is OEM sized pipe.

I'm going to sit on the fence with this to see how it compares with the other one coming out.

Do you plan on getting some dyno results vs stock ***** Rob?

So all your cutting and beading is the front pipe? What dimple are you referring too, the front pipe to heat and bend out? What about core front *****, send a cut/beaded front pipe and we send back original for the people not willing to modify the front on their own...

Dyno would not show this until the turbo is pushed until last breaths. The best way to test the upgrade would be by flow/pressure drop testing (easiest) or by measuring shaft speeds at same target boost. All in all the point of the upgrade is to avoid the turbo working harder than it needs, to overcome unnecessary and obvious restrictions in and around the charge pipe merger, to meet the same boost target (ie. enhance high-flow efficiency). Specs of all of the affiliated hardware are provided above, if you visualize each data point it is very clear that there is not any restrictions (above and beyond the compressor housing itself) within the parts remaining after this modification.

The intent is to really just offer a quick cheap universal upgrade to those who are interested to perform the mods themselves. We are not really interested in doing the mods for others, however it the demand is there we may work something out to those interested. We can discuss methods to get it done as needed when the time comes. Of course for those who want to do nothing we would have to send them core ***** and get their old back for refund. Overall it is a very simple process to just do in the field, but we would be bead rolling the front pipe after cutting it and removing the dimple.

Rob

What is the purpose of front turbo pipe dimple? Is it to prevent the pipe from hitting something?

Nothing really. Likely something with the production of the pipe. That dimple in itself gets much worse all around the merger area, which is why we want to get rid of it all so there is no restriction (beyond the housing size itself).

I am not saying this part is going to make a substantial difference, ie. make 50whp, but for those who are looking to optimize a setup it will certainly help by reducing pressure drop from the turbo to the intake… which is very important to keep in mind.

Here are some pictures illustrating x-section views of the restrictive bits of the charge pipe that this modification eliminates. After the modification there is nothing remaining aside for straight through true ID larger tubing with a much more ideal 2 into 1 merger.

Thanks sir. There is more to come as we have numerous further N54 upgrades in the pipeline as well, mostly addressing weak links outside of the turbos.
