Hi everyone,

I just installed the FF wires for my N55 335i and I want to know how to mix E85. If I wanted to do 30% of my total 16.1 gallon tank is it as easy as adding 5 gallons of e85? Or is there some sort of math equation I have to do?? I don't wanna mess up my car so I've been holding off on this.

You must have been bad at fractions and you also answered your own question, but:

5/16 * .85 = E26.5

Unless your pump gas has 10% in it then add:
11/16*.10 = E6.87

= ~ 33%

It is best to start low with your mixtures, log, then up the mixture. Depending on the amount of boost you are running you should be able to get away with E30-40 on the stock fuel system. I would start with E20 and log first.

Thanks guys for the reply I went ahead and used the calculator but I'm confused. I used the two different calculators and got different results. Here check out the pic

Okay yea the lower one is straight forward and is how I imagined it being...the top one is like wtf? I live in california how do I know if my 91 has 10% ethanol though??? Do I ask the guy inside...either way it looks like the safe zone is 5-6 gallons of e85 then the rest 91. I won't nit pick exactly e30 since the JB4 auto detects.

I think someone from California will have to chime in. I know in Oregon every pump has E10 unless stated otherwise.

I only use the top calculator. And I'm pretty sure that all pump gas in the US is E10 unless its for marine or aero use.

I agree with Bimmer_Boost I use the lower one too , the other one you forgot to input the 10% of Ethanol in your gas tank prior

In the first calculator you forgot to put the 11.1 gallons of E10 in there. That is why they are different.

This is a really cool product, especially for 150.

To the OP, just to confuse you further and prove why I would buy a sensor like above-

1) Regular fuel can contain up to 10%, but doesn't have to. It could be 0. Their call.

2) Fuel blends will vary based on if it is a summer or winter blend. Yes, there are different blends. Summer is cleaner burning and more expensive.

3) e85? ha ha try, e50-e90 at most places depending on what is most economical for them to provide at the time. You never know exactly what it will be at most stations.

Question regarding point 3....

I am now seeing the E85 label with a "Minimum 51%" logo as subtext. I cannot seem to find good information on the federal requirements for this fuel class including any relevant "octane" data. Do you have any knowledge on that front?

I've never seen that. Is it marked as E51? Proper E85 is 105 octane AKI.

If the pump said E85 and I got E57, I wouldn't be calling Torco, I'd be calling the company who's station it was and then the Feds.

The Sunoco I use here says minimum 70%. If I were to ever get a reading below that Id be like Mike and calling the Feds.

So far the lowest it has been when I checked was 78. 90% of the time its spot on 85.

THey meant to say to call Torco for E98 meaning PURE lol.

And yes although pump says E85 minimum E70, there's been showing lately E70 even in the summer aka Gulf stations are known for this. This is why a lot of people have to test before pumping now.

As of late, September I've tested E80 at all long island stations and E85-E88 in NJ. I've already filled up 13gals of jugs when i see the content is e85 or higher
Hopefully they vary cuz thats what it seems to be, go back to our Valero and test it before.
