Default 2011 335I Build Quest for 600 WHP - 01-30-2016, 09:04 AM

Figure I'd start this thread to keep everything in one place and hopefully help out others along the way. I purchased the car from a friend July 2015, and after attending a car meet in September I knew I had an itch that needed scratching. Went to Autocotoure, in Fairlawn, NJ for once over of the car since I didn't do one pre-purchase (yeah I know not the smartest idea but I trusted him) all checked out. While there I decided to do a full build on the car with 39k miles.

Ok so dropped the car off in September got it back late October. Drove it a couple of months and of course wanted more. This month I ordered
and had installed by TNT Racewerks in Deer Park, LI

Fuelit Platinum PI kit
Fuelit Stage 3 LPFP
BMS OCC

Some may say the PI kit and Stgae 3 LPFP is overkill and you may have a point. I've personally done it so I don't have to worry about upgrading again in the future. Ok on to what everyone wants to know, what kind of power are you making? It is a process dialing it in. Heading back to TNT on Moday as I have a 2hr remote dyno tuning scheduled, and Helical LSD on the way.

Here's the graph, funny enough I'm happy tho. This was with E33 the car running super rich and user settings weren't properly adjusted so this is a bad as it can get and we obviously know that she's capable of much more. Heading back on Monday for a 2hr Dyno session to get her dialed in.

Not heading to Dyno until 5pm and it's a scheduled 2hour session so we'll be there for a while.

Logs look good, definitely under target tho on the map 6 run tho. But 468 on basically 19psI is good and running too rich at that.

Did you pressure test your car? This is similar to what my logs looked like when I have a big boost leak.

Are you looking at going +600 with a Pure S2 or taking another route?

That's the same question Steve asked me. I did have it tested a month ago and all was fine so I'm thinking it's something else. I did a log just now and it's looking a lot better PWM isn't maxing out. Log attached.

PWM still looks a bit high to me. Here's an example of ours with similar PWM in 3rd gear as well...

Try bumping your DB's up to 70 and lower your FF to 35. Do a couple pulls to let it adapt and then email me those.

Interestingly enough I found two DIY's. One for making a smoke tester and one for making psi tester. I made both of them and will be double checking for a boost leak.

Was back on the dyno with Jake@Motiv last night and he's saying the same as Steve said boost leak cause my PWM maxing out around 4-4500 rpm. I did make a DIY smoke tester and saw no leak, but I'm going to follow the advice of the car doctors. Calling Maximumpsi later they're 30mins away to get a proper test done.

Yup either that of your AMS 7'' fmic has a lot of pressure drop.

I'm growing weary so hopefully it's just a boost leak that can be easily fixed.

Smoke tester doesn't help for this. You want to pressure test the charge system to 20psi and listen for leaks. Any boost leak large enough to cause excessive pwm will be loud and obvious at a 20psi pressure test. The most common leaks we find on the N55 are FMIC o-rings and charge pipe to throttle body o-rings.

FMIC o-rings - torn, installed in reverse, or missing.

CP to TB o-rings - torn, missing, or some people think the oil filter o-ring works as a replacement, it does not.

Thanks for chiming in. I've scheduled to have a boost leak test done at Maximumpsi on Thursday. Jake told them to do a test charging the system to 20psi. This a part of the process, and I'm thankful for the great customer service all vendors have provided me thus far.

Ok, so Maximumpsi hasn't found a boost leak, I honestly was hoping that Alex and I was wrong and there was a boost leak for a simple solution. This leads me to believe that there are only a couple variables remaining, bad turbo hardware or incorrect installation somewhere. Im leaning towards the latter. Pure is working with Max to resolve the problem.

Again I can't thank all the vendors enough for their help as their customer service has been beyond industry standards and instrumental in this process.

Also 1 thing to test is put your stock fmic back on... I once had a forge fmic on pure stage 1 turbo. With stock fmic on that setup i was doing 17.5 psi at 6k rpm with PWM maxed. With the forge fmic I could only do 14.5 psi there. 3 psi difference due to different fmic with a lot of pressure drop. Needless to say my 60-130 was 0.5s slower with that fmic.

At least then you know if its the fmic or something else.
