Default Anyone else experience BOV sound change after inlets? - 06-27-2015, 02:21 PM

So after installing vtt inlets, my BOV went from just a normal quiet wooshing sound, to something a bit different. The sound is definitely coming from the BOV, as it isn't there if I pinch off the vac hose going to it. I opened it up, yellow spring, no internal issues, moves easily.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the link. I hate it now Probably due to more volume of air or some resonance.

I can tell you that I bought a bov and took it off immediately after inlets install and went back to just venting to atmosphere sounds much better imo .

Maybe it's just the tial? I have a turbosmart race port and inlets getting installed, will find out soon enough.

From your vid is sounds like the howl sound happens before the BOV even opens. Maybe the howl sound comes out of the air filters instead? This would make sense since the inlets would likely affect sound coming out of the filters.

No sound if I pinch off the bov vac hose. It's def coming from the bov, and it makes the sound even when its full open. I might try some new springs and see if any change, really weird.

I'm running the 10 psi spring in mine and it makes the same sound with VTT inlets.

If its making the sound with the BOV stuck open wouldn't that suggest that it's not the BOV making the sound?

If I pinch the hose, the bov doesn't open, and no sound. It's coming from the BOV.

I have forge DV venting to atmosphere and they make this exact same sound. This sound started after I installed my vtt inlets. I just did a turbo swap and ensured the inlets were attached securely to the turbos. I rebuilt the dvs twice now and it still makes this noise. I even swapped out the forge dvs with the stock ones and they also make the same noise. It's definitely something to do with the inlets, maybe due to the doubled flow/volume of air being moved?

Other upgraded inlets do not have this problem reported. Only VTT.

Possibly a resonace issue specific to these inlets? Other than that I have no idea and it's bugging the crap out of me.

I noticed that some bovs are cracked at idle, and some are closed at idle . I can't ever confirm what's it's supposed to be lol .

My Forge DV's are full open at idle.

I think I may be on to something, after adding 1 then eventually 2 shims to the yellow springs in my Forge DV, it caused the sound to get louder. I took the 2 shims out and the sound lessened. I suspect it is due to the increase in CFM and volume of air moving through the intake tract. Since PSI is a unit of area and not volume, it stands to reason that when you increase the ability for turbos to move more air, the volume of air escaping from the BOV or DVs is doing so at a higher CFM. This may possibly cause the noise, as the piston opens the sounds from air passing by the surface opening make a "noise." Its like blowing across the opening of an open glass bottle, to little or too much and it does not make a noise. However, if you blow air at the right speed and the right volume across the top of a bottle, it will then make a howling noise.

I'm running the Tial and VTT inlets, got louder and higher pitch after the inlets went in. I am enjoying the sound of the howl for now.

Why RB's over the shorter route of the "others"?

With RB inlets and turbosmart diverter valves recirculating, I can definitly hear the DV noise.
It wasn't the case with stock inlets.
