Default N54 JB4 Individual Cyl Knock Logging - 06-30-2014, 05:38 PM

Hey guys,

I know the N54 crew has been feeling a little neglected lately considering how much attention we've been giving to the new //M platform, the F30 EWG programming, etc, but don't worry. We've been quietly working on some big things for the N54.

For one we finally figured out how to get the JB4 to log timing advance & ignition corrections on cylinders 2-6. As part of this revision we've updated the JB4 interface layout a bit organizing boost, fuel, and timing parameters next to each other. I also expect this will lead to back end flash map improvements, smarter auto tuning algorithms, a meaningful knock light in dash, etc.

We're doing development and testing with it now so expect to see regular updates.

*** To speed along testing I've added the BETA firmware to this thread. ***

Directions for use:

You need to update to the 7/5 interface:
http://www.n54tech.com/flash_files/jb4_interface.zip

Load the BETA JB4 G5 ISO firmware attached.

To enable the feature you need to set a value under 6cyl timing logging. These are the current options.

6cyl timing options:
i8a0s timing corrections: 1
ijeos timing corrections: 2
ilaos timing corrections: 3
i8a0s raw timing values: 4
ijeos raw timing values: 5
ila0s raw timing values: 6

The sample rate on cyl 2-6 raw timing will be increased soon. It's running at the timing correction frequency right now which is maybe half the normal speed. Anyway hopefully this new data will prove useful for those self tuning.

Note this is for twin turbo use only. For single turbo use I'll post that firmware in the ST thread later.

7/2 added BETA2. When raw timing mode is enabled it will show the lowest timing in dash and use the lowest timing value for auto tuning variables. Also passes out the second bank AFR full time. In dash and AFR safety still reports/uses the leanest value as it was previously.

Terry why not exchange the KR5 and KR6 values in column 3 with the Ign Adv and Avg Ign values in column 2.

That way all knock values can be located in one column..... in order.

Shiv left the building and COBB is wondering why it took so long when the extract of the MSD80.PRG has all the PIDs... I think I pointed this out a while back.. Just glad to see it become a reality.

Sweet!
Will the JB4 eventually be able to log lpfp, oil temp, and speed separately?

just a question:
so now that we can log the timing advance and the ignition corrections on each cylinder separetely, how can we interpret the ingition advance field and the average retard ignition one ?
would it be possible, by quoting for example KR3, to see the curves of the ignition advance and the average ignition retard of the cylinder 3 at the same time ?

Excellent, excellent work Terry.

Things certainly have come along way since I started playing with piggybacks back in 2009. I had a Procede back then. So, so glad I switched to JB4.

This will come in very handy when testing the more aggressive flashes used with the JB4.
