What mods do you run? How long running? What would you have done differently? -
01-11-2014, 07:44 PM
Hey, new 1er owner here looking to get some knowledge from the experienced owners. Im looking to start modding my 135 but want to get some time with her stock before modding. Just wanted to see what people are running and for how long. Also knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?

Welcome! I've had my 135i for about 8 months now. I LOVE it.
When I got it it had wheels and non runflats, and a bunch of carbon fiber bits. Everyone says upgrading from runflats makes a big difference.
Within 48 hours I went on a shopping spree. DCI, JB4, ******* *********, upgraded FMIC, and WW Water Meth. From the time of buying the car I went from stock to FBO in about a week.
A few months later I did the Alpina flash and noticed a huge difference that made.
If I was to do it again, I'd of bought BMS ********* instead of saving a few bucks with the Racelands. Secondly I'd of bought a trunk mounted water/meth setup. I have had nothing but problems keeping my kit primed.
08 AW 135i - JB4 G5 ISO, WW Water Meth, BMS DCI, Raceland *********, VRSF Intercooler, Alpina Trans Flash
02 Subaru WRX - TD05-18g, modded stock injectors, 3" turbo back exhaust....and the list goes on.

First, welcome and congrats on the new car!
I have had my 135i AT for just over 2 years now. Bought the car with 30k and it is now at 55k. The only issues I have had are the normal things like plugs, coil packs, and vanos solenoide.
For performance, I was Full Bolt On with meth from the start (came from a FBO 335i). For the last 10k, the car has been running RB turbos, flash tune, and Walbro 455 in tank pump for E60. I could not ask more out of the car (with the exception of getting that 10 second #@$%#$$#@% pass LOL).
Now if I were to start all over I would do the following mods in this order:
1 - JB4 ISO
2 - BMS Intakes
3 - BMS E85 flash
4 - Walbro inline E85 pump
5 - Alpina Trans Flash
This alone should be right around 380-400whp vs the stock 280ish whp!
After this you want to look at the things that will help you sustain that power. They will all add some power to the mix as well but not in huge chunks like the items above.
5 - ******* ********* - I have used both the AR and BB. There have been great reviews on the BMS cost effective offering. If I started from scratch I would go with BMS because Terry stands behind everything so amazing well.
6 - Front Mount Intercooler
7 - BMS Catch Can
8 - Charge Pipe with BOV & Meth bungs
9 - Meth
Next level would be either upgraded twins (I highly recommend RB's).
Thats about all I can think off right now...

I agree with all of this. Personally, I would move the Chargepipe and the Catch Can to probably #2 and #3. I only got 2-3 months on the stock chargepipe before it blew. The catch can i moved that up just to help prevent further $$$ down the road.

Got my car in Germany in Jul 2008, sometimes I wish I had gotten the sun roof delete.
My car is getting ready to hit 40K miles. I tried to sell her because my back going south after 2 surgeries on the c-spine at multi-levels. No one wanted her so I am moving forward with taking her back to Sebraing for some runs and SCCA events when I have the time.
1. JB3 then JB4 now JB4 G5. I had pin outs and then the PnP.
2. Blow off valves
3. BMS DCI (dual cone intake)
4. camber plates
5. Helix Intercooler
6. M3 sway bar
7. Cooling Mist meth injection (C12 nozzle)
8. Chatless Down *****
9. Meisterschaft full chatless exhaust
10. BMS clutch valve
11. Bavarian technic scanner cable kit
12. NGK plugs
13. Strut tower brace
14. BMS cowl filters
15 Kensinger (sp) shifter
16. Stainless steel brake lines
17. A wheel tire combo to widen the stance, a group sale years ago, still love the feel.
18. ClutchMaster FX400 550hp rated clutch
probably a few other things.
She dyno'd 420rwhp and 460lbsft torque in Jul this year. That was on map 7 with some 110 leaded added and the JB4 G4. Looking to go back with the JB4 G5 and try a product called Race-Gas once i test its additive properties. It has MMTs and Aromatics added (likely toluene or xylene). the beauty is not having to hunt around for 100-105 unleaded. you make your own.
Vae Victis!
If you are not going Juice Box then you are going slow.

My car is a 2011 BMW N55 135i. It has 389whp.
Mods have been on there since 2011. Wouldn't change a thing but kind of want the 1M mirrors and to upgrade the headlights to the new ones with the LED eyebrow.
The car is so awesome. Such a good daily driver too.

Curious, does the alpina trans flash actually add power? Thanks!

It doesn't add power, but here is what you do get...
1) Faster/cleaner upshifts and downshifts
2) Better management of higher torque requests.
It really is worth it.

Just go for the XHP stage 3. Easy install and most people claim it's better than alpina.
