135i BMW Performance Seats + Wheel (Photos) -
09-30-2013, 02:08 AM
I ordered BMW Performance seats for my 2011 135i from EAS a little while back. They installed the seats and programmed the airbags for me and it has been great ever since. Got the BMW Performance steering wheel (non electrical) from the Tischer. Installed it myself. Aside from the JB4, the wheel and seats make the car. You don't slide around in them and they are comfortable. Quality is there for sure.
Things I have learned about these seats:
The part numbers are different for the 1 and 3 series. Not sure what differs but they both have different part numbers.
The bottom seat height is very hard to adjust yourself and the seats need to be unbolted to change the height. High is like having the bottom of the stock seat 75% up. The lower settings were better for me. The seat back can be adjusted like a normal seat back.
They do have side airbags just like the factory seats. The airbags must be programmed to work in US vehicles. Both airbags will deploy simultaneously in the event of a side impact. Whereas the factory side airbag will only deploy on the side you are hit from. The non-BMW Recaro Sportster seats are cheaper without the airbags.

looks sick, but I could never justify spending that kind of coin on seats.

Jason, how does the low seat height compare to lowest setting on the stock seats? Lower, I would hope.

How does Alcantara work against sweat? They look really good btw. I'd like to move the BMW Performance a little lower and add a BMW logo above it. I might be getting these.

Forgive my ignorance if that's factory, but where did you get that cup holder that adapts to the trim near the shifter?!

Still don't understand why that was added... At least you can easily remove it... Just pull up really hard and it pops off + a cover closes to conceal the hole.

Having the third cupholder was caused by a glitch in BMW's dealership ordering software. The side cupholder was only supposed to go on cars with iDrive, because it took the place of one of the cupholders in the console. When you added iDrive to the car, the cupholder option was automatically added.
The problem comes when a dealer changes the options of a car that's already been ordered and is in the production que. Removing the iDrive option didn't take the cupholder back off the order, so some cars (mine included) got three.
I think it was corrected going into the second year of production, but it might have went on a little longer than that.

Also, how has the alcantera held up for anyone that has had these in their car for a bit?

These seats are awesome but expensive and hard to find. Jason may know. Maybe you can talk him in to selling you ours as we rarely drive this car these days.

What vendors sell the Recaro Cross Sportster for the e9X? I've emailed Turner with zero response.
