Hey folks, new to this forum, in the middle of fixing a bad misfire (cyl 6), changing the fuel injector. Car is '14 F12 640i. Realoem explains that N55's in this car built prior to 7/1/13 need to check EU5 or EU6 were used as BMW was converting from one to the other. Mine has a 9/24/13 build date so I assumed EU6 and ordered that injector (13647639994). I removed the old one from the car last night - it is the EU5 one (13647597870).

Question - can I use the EU6 injector I have on hand? The new EU6 one is identical in appearance and dimensions and has a flow number on the side, just like the EU5 one so presumably it can be coded.

Of course I should order the exact part that was in the car, but would like to complete the job today if possible, so wondering if anyone here knows more about this EU5/EU6 topic.

I believe there is a visual difference between the two. If they look exactly the same you should probably be fine.

I installed the injector today, coded with INPA and seems to work great. Let’s see if any issues arise.

Look the same. Just want to make sure you put a new decoupleron the new injector. Don't see it in the pic.

Yes, I installed a new decoupling ring.

Well, it's confirmed that it's important to use the correct part, and looking the same does not make them the same :-)

The EU6 injector (Bosch 62825) is *not* interchangeable with the EU5 injector (62805). After replacing cyl 6 with the EU6 injector the car ran ok, idled smoothly, but had a stutter under load, and would eventually throw a misfire code and the MIL would light up. I ordered the proper EU5 injector and it works perfectly.

We all know to use the right parts, no new learning there (lol) but in case anyone is curious...

Interesting, glad to know they look exactly the same. Could have swore the top connector part was slightly different.

I think it may have to do with the spray pattern of the injector. Emissions regulations made it necessary for BMW to change the injector tip. Something about not spraying fuel in the direction of the exhaust ports? They also had to reduce the angle of the spray. At least, that is what is outlined in some of the BMW academy docs. I think the B58 engine PDF talks about it? Maybe it was the S55 doc...

Yes, that is what I was thinking also but couldn't find anything written on it. I looked at the tips with a jeweler's loupe (those holes are tiny!) and the tips are definitely different - both in placement of the holes and the center tip.

Good to get this cleared up by practical testing.
