Default VTT Hotside Charge Pipe - 07-30-2018, 08:12 AM

Picked up the silicone hotside charge pipe from VTT as part of a package when i replaced the turbos during the winter. After (8) days of racing (I run 18# so nothing crazy), mid-July, it failed catastrophically (meaning a 4" long rip) on the section between the rear and front turbo - DNF.

Reached out for a warranty replacement and was told they do not make a silicone version anymore (mentioned failures) and required $100 to get a set of "discounted" aluminum ones "as the warranty". Unfortunately, not in stock and told "a few weeks" (this past weekends race was a mess being waaaaaaay down on power as the limp patch put together wouldn't hold) - just followed up and told "1-2 more weeks". Not holding my breath.

Wanted to share my story in the event you are on the fence about picking one up...

Track prepared 08 e92 335i: VTT Stage 2+, VTT Inlets / Outlet, cp-e CP, VRSF 7" HD, Forge DV's, D-P's, OCC, DCI, Race BEF, Fuel-it LPFP, JB4, gutted interior with seats / harness' / roll bar, sunroof delete, 3.46 LSD, Spec 3+ w/SMFW, M3 suspension, TC Kline DA Coilovers, 245 square Hoosier's

installation is key for them to least a long time, As far as you can from the exhaust manifold and must not be touching the coolant tank /hose nor chassis.
Heat reflective material strongly suggested

quite hard to trim them right and get in the perfect spot.

They will all fail eventually. That's the worst aftermarket kit offffered for the n54!

that sucks. had mine on my 1 series since they started making them and so far no issues.

but yeah silicone doesnt make a ton of sense on that side of the engine

I bought one with my inlets a couple years ago, still sitting on my parts shelf. After reading this I think it'll stay there

VTT is no longer selling silicon outlets at all? thought the alum was just an additional product.

About a year ago, my VTT silicon outlet failed, developed a tear (not from rubbing) - and it was professionally installed by a Vargas certified installer. Reached out to VTT and they sent a 'newer' design, was told the new one was more strongly reinforced (not sure since I never saw them side by side). Installed by same Vargas cert installer locally, and no issues since...
