In-Dash MHD? -
05-19-2017, 09:39 AM
Just discovered the world of in-dash Android head units. Hit me that MHD runs on Android and eliminating the tablet would be nice. Is there any way to run MHD on one of these?
Anyone have an in-dash system similar that can test to see if MHD runs? Would be sick if it worked and gauges came up on the in-dash unit. Did some searches and came up empty. Sorry if it's been discussed previously.

The Eonon GA6165 is a popular choice.

Yes, preferably by cable for good logging or, especially, if you plan to flash maps.

Of course. But I hear MHD is developing a Bluetooth connection.

I just got the Eonon 7165 and plan to install into my 08' 335i without Logic 7. Not going to do a video but I'll take some before and after pictures

Found out I have the Logic 7 system. Looks like some people have moved L7 HU to trunk to install aftermarket, but sounded pretty involved. Guess there's a fiber optic cable to run amps, and aftermarket would involve replacing factory amps, running cables to trunk, etc. I like the sound now, but the MHD/JB4 in dash could be slick, in addition to all the other features these Eonon etc brands offer.
Anyone have input on aftermarket w/ Logic 7? Done a lot of searching, and I'm probably going to give up on the idea unless someone says it's not that bad.
Thanks in advance.

Instead of an Android head unit, have you considered a video switching unit like Xcarlink that connects other Video units to the iDrive display? You can then run an Android mini computer / TV Stick into it such as described on this other website: https://bmw.***********.com/threads/...65/#post-13741

Yes. It works, logging and such. I haven't had the gumption to try and flash yet.

Something to watch out for.... I powered my Android device from the power that goes to the iDrive screen. Big dummy.... During a flash the iDrive screen loses power.
Once I switch it to a better power source then flashing it won't be a problem.
I currently have a wireless mouse in my center storage console but plan to add a touch screen overlay to the iDrive screen.

What head unit are you using and did you just plug the Dcan cable directly to the unit or did you have to make any mods. Does the MHD app ( gages, logging, etc) run pretty good? Thanks

Very nicely done. I don't have iDrive and currently using a old Note 5 phone. I'm just getting tired of having to manually power it on, going through the lock screen each time, and having to disconnect and recharge every other day. I wanna be able to get in start the car and go.

I bought this one,
http://xtrons.com/pb7681bap-7-hd-dig...-1-series.html
There is a wire harness to for a USB that plugs into the deck. Then just plugged my cable in and it worked. Seems faster than through my phone.
The one thing I notice though is it gets really hot and slows down. There is virtually no air movement so that is my next goal.
And right now I'm having an issue with the radio 'optimizing apps' continually. Waiting on a response for what to do about that.
Sounds like it's something on my end/fault.
Also, I bought mine through Amazon because shipped it was the lowest price I could find. Easier returns and such also. Was sold through Xtrons though.
*edit 12/08/2017
My radio is back up and running. Took a factory reset to remove a corrupt app. Works fine now.
