Hopefully after this first production run the shortage of 135i cores will be resolved. I figure most people will want to pay the core deposit and then send in their old turbos for a refund, so once you have a reserve of a few 135i turbos it should be a problem.....I'm hoping.

Possibly never. We will see more as this moves along, but if I got everything worked out right I think it will work for me... unless something else outside my control changes.

If you are buying upgraded turbos, you are buying just that, upgraded turbines, compressors, CHRAs, wastegates... the result is pictured in one of the early pages.
You seem to think that turbos generate a certain dyno slip as a result. That is not the case. Dyno graphs depend on the several factors, turbos being only one of them. I never trust dyno slips, if the alternative is to see the result of turbo upgrade in clear pictures. From the real results =upgraded turbos, I can derive myself how much I can gain in power.

I know it might be a bit early to say, but in case using JB3 for tuning these, is the stock JB3 board with stock resistors recommended, or some other resistors?

Turbo upgrade? -
05-15-2010, 10:32 AM
I see everyone is bashing because Dyno results.
I feel Terry's results or advice means more than Rob's since he is tuning the car and know's the potential of the turbo's. You can build anything but if you can't tune it your **** out of Luck!
When Terry said he likes what he see's and the turbo's were very efficient at a 16-17 psi with stock parts that was my decision on buying these turbo's. I've modded all my cars and dynoed all of them and proven gains were not always there as a tuner claimed with there own dyno figures.
I know if these turbo's have bigger internals and other upgrades they will be better than the factory ones. So far i've been reading this thread from the first post and feel Rob is a straight up guy as well as Terry being involved with the tune. Since I have JB3, results and customer service have been great. I know I will be satisfied.
So to each there own, buy now or wait, I don't care what your decision will be. I'm that kind of guy and been modding for the last 2 decades, so my gut feeling was to go for it.
Rob keep up the good work and I'm glad Terry is part of your build.
Good luck to all,
Peace

I feel the best way to get results and/or opinions is getting these into alot of your hands and let the turbos speak for themselves. To those initial buyers I am very happy we have a mutual trust and I want to assure you that clean quality work is what I do. You all will be very happy when you see these in your hands. No matter what it is, I don't like putting my John Han**** on anything that is garbage... or that I dont feel good about. I feel VERY good about these. I am very excited to get these to you pioneers who put your faith in me and my product. You all are helping me help everyone else in the N54 community who have been waiting for a product like this to come out at this price point for years now.
I am hoping that those of you who are getting in this initial batch can be really fast paced getting them installed and are already sitting there with healthy fully modded cars (ie. Intercooler, full exhaust, etc). If you have all of that plus Meth or Nitrous then even better! I know these things are going to be capable of 20+psi through redline, possibly even more. We just need to keep the IATs cool and be able to let the exhaust out.
I'd like to add that I'm ecstatic that we have some true drag racers (ie. OldBooster) wishing to try these out as well; as I am a big fan of seeing the true capabilities being realized out where it counts- the track. Dynos are good, but the track is better IMHO.
I am still buttoning up a few things on my end to get this production run rolling. I do not like taking payments until I am ready to get the ball rolling as is why there has been a little delay. However, everything is moving along and it seems we will be setup and ready to take the deposits late next week. Then its just immediately placing some rather large raw material orders. Please note that I expect that you realize your deposit is "locking" you into this upgrade, and that you will definitely get your product in a reasonable timeframe. I need very firm buyers right now, so if you are shaky then let me know ASAP so we can arrange for your purchase later. After that there is going to be a ton of work for me, but if I can at all help it I'm going to try my best to beat my 4-5 week timeline to get these in your hands sooner than later.
Thanks,
Rob
