Default New Stage 2.5 LPFP, kicking into safety - 02-18-2021, 11:51 AM

Hey everyone,

The car is a 2008 single turbo 335i. I've been running it on the stock fuel system on map 2 (17 psi) with no issues at all, it's been running great. I tried running map 3 (20 psi) a few times and everytime, it kicked me into the safety map.

So I went ahead and installed a Walbro 535 (stage 2.5) LPFP. Pump seems to be running great, LPFP values are higher than before during pulls. Well, I took it out just now and did three pulls. The first in map 1 (wg pressure, 6 psi), second in map 2 (17 psi) and the third in map 3 (20 psi).

The first two pulls went great, no issues. The third pull pulled strong all the way through second, but once I got to third, it fell on its face and kicked me into the safety map. I'm looking through the logs and can't figure out what's wrong. Can anyone please help? Also looks like it didn't hit full boost in second...

Your last safety was for being lean and you can see in the log both banks run lean post shift.

We don't recommend the 535 pump as it does not have a check valve in it. This can be problematic as the stock pump, 450, and 525 pumps all have check valves in them.

Thanks Steve. I’ll try a stage 2 I guess then. Not sure what else to do.

One thing I can’t figure out is why is there an I8A0S_ST_E85 BEF but not an IJE0S_ST_E85 BEF? I don’t have a twin scroll manifold or port injection.

There's an entire folder dedicated to ST in the zip file for IJEOS.

So I see these maps:

ST
ST with E85 and PI
ST with E85 and PI and Twin Scroll
ST with E85, PI, Twin Scroll, and Throttle
ST with E85 and TS
ST with E85 and TS and THR
ST with throttle
ST with TS, PI, THR, and FLEX

But I donít have a twin scroll manifold or port injection. So which BEF should I use for E85?

Also, I took a 4th gear log then a 2nd gear log. Everything was going good in the 4th gear pull. Trims look good, AFRs look good... and when boost went from 14.1 to 15.5 the HPFP dropped from 15 to 10. Then went back up to 13. It seems like I only have issues in third and fourth gear. 1st and 2nd never seem to have issues.

I'd start with the ST map in that case.

The HPFP is fine for now. If it consistently drops below 10, then you'll need to add PI.

Thanks Steve! I appreciate your help. I’ve got the VTT double-barrel shotgun kit I need to install.

But what’s up with the boost going over the target to 17.6, then dropping down 16.7, then down to 14.9, then back up to 17 and even 18 at the end?

Also, I am getting this compressor surge/turbo flutter noise when I let off throttle. It’s most prominent under light throttle, but it always happens. The BOV will open and I can hear it release pressure, but then the turbo makes the flutter noise right before that or at the same time. Any ideas on that?

Sorry, that'd be hardware related but is pretty minor.
