Oil report Blackstone -
12-21-2018, 03:34 PM
I have run my first oil report on my 535Xi and the results are somehow alarming.
the car has about 70,000miles and the maintenance is up to date. I did replace the injectors, coils, sparkplugs, fuel pump, water pump and numerous seals and gaskets in the past 20,000miles.
the oil was about a year old, and changed after 9,000km or 5,500 miles.
I have a JB4 installed and no other mods.
what is the common thought about metals in oil?
thanks

Did u use the OEM oil filter with each oil change?
Any visual things on the oil filter or sound other than injector ticking on idle and 2000-3000 rpm?
I would give a try to use 8100 X-CESS 5W-40 and see how the 2nd Blackstone report compared to this one with Castrol if it make a difference.

I'll have to find the report I got on my last change but you are way high. Mine has 142k on it and think I did 6600 miles with a pretty stellar report and could have went longer. Stock except DCI, JB4, BEF. Mobile One 0W40 with Mann filter.

Here is my last report. Remember, this is a car with 2x the mileage and oil with 1300 more miles on it:

I always used OEM filter and recommend oil.
the injectors are noisy but they are testing fine with the diagnostics.
I reused BMW recommended Castrol Edge this time too, I will try to run a shorter interval.
A part for the turbo bearings, what commonly gives up on this engines?
thanks

My last report was with 81k miles (13.5k on the oil), and iron was 61, copper was 14, aluminum was 7. They indicated that iron should be around 4.3 per 1000 miles driven on the oil.
I'd be more worried about the fuel in the oil, mine was only <0.5.
Keep in mind I had more than double the mileage on my oil as well.

I don't think Castrol Edge 5W-30 is BMW recommended oil for this engine. I'm pretty sure it doesn't meet BMW Long Life (LL-01) specs. The Castrol Edge oils that do meet this spec are 0W-40 and 0W-30 European Car formulas made in Germany/Belgium. These are better spec oils than the US made 5W-30. If it was me on this turbo engine, I would opt for Castrol Edge European Car Formula or Mobil1 FS European Car Formula 0W-40.
