Default Coil upgrade. FBO 335xi N54. - 08-30-2019, 12:15 PM

Just purchased an N54 335i. The car has already been nicely modded with:

BMS DCI
CPE chargepipe with HKS BOV
AA Race intercooler
CPE c@tlesspipes
Eisenmann race exhaust
BMS methanol kit with CM10 nozzle
RB PCV
BMS OCC
Etc.

Iím now just doing some maintenance work on the car and replacing plugs and coils. I figure I may as well upgrade to either the BimmerLife or Precision Racewerks coils. Iím going to soon put a set of PS2 DDís on with inlets, so I figure it may be a good idea. Do either one of these coils out perform the other? They are about the same price, but am leaning towards the BL coils as Iíve been reading more posts about people having issues with the Precisionís.

Thanks!

Believe it or not, I would spend the money elsewhere. I sold my R8 coils a while back. They were listed for sale on this site as well as a couple others.

Are you running upgraded turbos? I’m looking for 550whp and would like a coil that can handle that.

PR coils all day and night. Im running a single at 22 to 26 psi and no issues . I made custom longer cable from MSD super conductor so my coils rest on intake manifold and no misfires.

Probably should’ve just got the Eldor coils from FCP, but I ordered the BimmerLife coils yesterday. Figured they can’t hurt.

Cancelled the BL order and ordered Eldor from FCP. Will put that money towards a stage 2 BL pump.

Phew.

The Coil history is interesting, though less intense than our Injector history.
IIRC: Bosh --> Delphi --> Eldor
I didn't realize this when I changed them out in my last 3 E9x cars.
I'm only running 19 PSI, but these 2 year old Bosh have never choked.

Some swear you need to upgrade as your boost builds.
I didn't track with their logic after watching the videos. Seemed to be gaps in the testing, making the results irrelevant.

THE BEAST, Dave, Payam... It's the best position, IMO.
(note: newer cars are sold with the newer Coils (Eldor), which may also be why they still deliver at the 600/750 whp. without 'upgrade'... where as my 2008 had Bosh, so moving to Eldor would be an 'upgrade'.

** EDIT ** FCP Euro makes me wish my car was new. I'll never get to make a claim on my Index 12 Injectors, but I do love their Warranty. Simply absurd. Truly awesome. They also moved on the price for me a bit. Very kind.
