Default N55 with DCT drag launching - 04-26-2017, 03:45 PM

Hey everyone,
I've been watching a lot of videos on YouTube and also researching on forums about the best way to launch a 135i with N55 and DCT transmission.

Of course these transmissions have the Launch Control option but in my case the thing takes like 0.8sec to react after I let the break pedal off... and of course the thing slips like a bitch on my Nitto Invo tires.

I've seen a couple of posts where people say that they launch without the LC and just step on the gas as the green light goes on. But I'd like to hear from everyone. My car is FBO on E40 mix and my best 1/4 mile run was 13.3.

Now, as far as settings goes, do you guys just turn off the TC or do you also go all the way to shut the DSC off as well?

I understand that N55 with the stock b03 turbos should be shifter at 5500 rpms, but I've seen videos that people shift the 1st gear at 4500 rpms then the next gears all the way up to 5500 rpms. How so?


Hope this thread becomes the definitive N55 DCT drag tutorial!

There is no good way i have found.
I turn traction control completely off and try and time the lights for a stomp.
I spam MHD constantly asking for a flash option.

all the way off? That sounds like the car will spin like crazy and if not driving carefully even crash it. I wouldn't even go there for just a 1/4 mile drag

Lol. Wjen I first got my car I thought that.
Every time I drive my car TC is completely off.
I tracked it on Sunday no problems.

I have a 6 speed manual and I almost always run with DSC/Tac off. start to spin at the drag strip let off a little on the gas a little!

I have actually come up with a good way to launch the car at any rpm but it is kind of hard to time but with some practice i have got it down. This same method allows me to do burnouts in the dct!

dont you guys use the checkered flag LC with the 3500 rpm limit?
im an on Federal 595-rsrr 255\35\18 and it goes well

Have those same tyres, they're good! Normally do a huge burnout with LC. Didn't try it last night because it never works. Couldn't have hurt I guess.

yeah, they are really good, putting aside their weight!

are you using the 5k rpm launch? or the checkered flag 3500 rpm launch?
mine always launched the very instant i let go of the brake pedal

as stated above turn TC completely off hold the brake and tap tap tap tap tap super quick on the gas the rpms will start climbing i like to release the brake around 2600-2800 rpms. its hard to get it right at first but you will get the hang of it

When you say tap, how far down are you pushing the pedal?

I was trying this but my ecu still just screwed me around.
Maybe I need more practice but I had about 15 goes at it!

The method of holding the brake pedal and tapping the gas does not work for me. I have tried it several times and it doesn't do anything, maybe because i have a 2013 and its a updated flash? But the method i use is when I am stopped, I have my foot on the brake and then i immediately let go off the brake and press the gas as fast as possible all the way to the kick down. For some reason this sends my rpms all the way to redline, but the car doesn't move forward. After the car revs up i put my foot back on the brake and i wait til i see the rpms fall to my desired rpms and book I smash on the gas. This method works great for me and I have launched at 4k rpms, 3k rpms and 2k rpms. It is just blistering fast.

Yep this is the method I use… My kickdown is disabled via MHD and it still works fine

Interesting, I've heard a couple of other methods before such as enable and then disabling the Checkered flag and launch as soon as the RPMs are dropping. But I like this method more, looks more accurate when launching at the drag strip.

Now, I'm using some Nitto INVO tires. What other Street tire is good for launching the car? I'm thinking on the Hankook Ventus RS3, or Nitto NT05?

I've run invos, nto5s and now Federal rs rr which win the traction battle by a huge margin.

Just looked at my slips from the other night, 11.89 @ 121.79 with a 2.1 60ft. If i could get a 1.8 I could be sub 11.3. Man I wish mhd could give us a launch flash option.

I have continued to work on on my dct launching technique on the stock 135i that I have. By launching at 5k at full throttle with a completely stock car except for intake and r888r i was able to nail a 4.3 0-60 time. My time measurement method consists of recording the run and using my video editing software to see the time, it is a crude method but pretty accurate. On the same car with a 3200 rpm launch and babying it off the line I nailed a 5.0 0-60 time. I will continue to practice my method and report on

how do i have a 3500rpm launch control while the rest are saying they have 5000rpm limit?

when i get the checkered flag i am at 3500 rpm and it goes off the line perfectly

The launch control on the 335i dct is 5000 rpm

Yes that is normal, but what I am doing is not launch control it is something I figured out.
