Forge DVs is what I went with to maintain that stealth feel. They run perfectly and haven't had any "negative feedback" from my wife yet.

LOL thanks for the info guys. I'll probably stay with the stockers until they start to go and considered forge then.

But TIAL is a great choice. I'm just very much about staying as stealth as possible, so no weird pops while I am cruising around with the family on a week-end jaunt.

(Wife: "What was that? It sounded like the engine just blew up. Is it ok?" Glad to hear your having fun out there! Also, nice touch with the hypothetical yet likely very plausible story! haha too funny.

Thats not a bad problem to have but what is bad is that these cores are VERY tough to come up with. Fortunately this set is coming back to be converted to RBs, as I am down well below 10 on inventory on them. If cores dry up, that means no sales until more are obtained.

Glad I did the suspension, it needs it.

The engine is liquid smooth, but north of 5,000 rpms under full throttle the car takes off like it's possessed. It is blazing fast, but sooo buttery smooth. That's what is so scary. It takes off and just flies. I hit +130 a bunch of times and it happens real fast. The car feels completely unstressed and balanced, but it's got a whole new demon character. Spooky stuff.
I will have to say that I am not afraid to go up against any other car on the street now. I'd like to see anyone who can keep up with this north of 100 mph. The surges I was getting at that speed were spectacular. It's very addictive, but holy crud the power is so deceptive because of how smooth it is.
Hats off to The N54 engine, Terry Burger for the JB4 tune, Cobb for theirs, and to Rob Beck for his stellar work on these hybrid typhoons.
I am a very happy camper. This feels like a complete car. Ultimate sleeper.
That's so awesome Peder. I'm happy for you bro. WOW.

It's funny. When I just had my Turbo's replaced (warranty claim), combined with the ER FMIC, my first thought was I also needed a BBK. There really is no doubt about it. The acceleration is so shockingly sudden (but quiet) that you really don't have enough power in our stockers to harness the beast.

I don't even have ********* on mine yet (coming in the next two weeks)but my FMIC combined with the Cobb Stage 1+ Tune makes my car literally a rasping cheetah on straight aways between 3 and 4th gear. OMG.

It's been cool here in the canyons the last couple of nights and I dusted a 911 yesterday by about 4 car lengths. Guy came up to me on the off ramp and was like "WTF do you have under your hood????"

I really can't justify a new RB Turbo being that I just had brand new turbos put in (at no charge) but the **'s combined with a custom Cobb Tune is all coming within the next month. Daniel aka Dr Euro is gonna do Dyno's before and after very soon for me so we'll have all have a very good baseline to formulate some gain numbers.

Again-congrats Peder...that is SICK!!!

PS...I also installed a Dinan Axle Back Exhaust this week after ripping from a cool guy in South Carolina. (He had it installed on his car less than a year before going Quad). I'm blown away at how much better it makes our car sound. Really throaty and exotic. No drone. But it makes a different car now under WOT.

If any of you cats are considering an exhaust for the 535i-I see no other option other than Dinan. The ***** are meaty/fat and stand out a bit from our bumper. Makes is look more menacing also. NO DRONE. Awesome sound and guaranteed no power loss.

Jay,

You commented,
"It's been cool here in the canyons the last couple of nights and I dusted a 911 yesterday by about 4 car lengths. Guy came up to me on the off ramp and was like "WTF do you have under your hood????" " Just tell them you just changed spark plugs and cleaned the air filter!

This scenario plays out all the time. Some jerk runs up aggressively on my tail, weaving back and forth, guns it for a quick pass. I let him go, but thumb the paddle shifter twice and fall in behind him. Then as he thinks he's got me clean, I blow by his right side. Guy gives me this confused WTF look, head jerking a couple of times and mouth agape, but then I am basically gone. They always look like you just ripped their clothes off in a public square.
I did it to a Nissan Coupe last night. Guy was completely panicked. I kept the throttle down until I hit 145 and ran into traffic. He was so far back I think he gave up. They probably call their tuning shop next morning and freak out about their mods.
They usually sit an inch off the ground on 22" chrome rims and a massive open exhaust that sounds like an 18 wheeler with a missing pot.

Anyway, be safe out there. No crazy stunts. Always remember it's the other guy who doesn't look in the mirror while he changes lanes for no reason.
I have driven in Germany many times, and on the roads with no speed limit everyone stays to the right. You only move left to pass, and always expect some souped up Porsche or Merc to come screaming along at 185 mph. It's their right and everyone respects that.
Here people drive like a grazing herd of sheep. Urban areas are no fun!
I'll get off my high horse now..... I guess when I reel in lunatics it's my vigilante way of smacking them over the head for driving irresponsibly. They use no signals and act like bullies. Not how you are supposed to drive, it endangers others.
I am all for driving fast, but when conditions allow. I guess that's my point. Sorry for the rant.

Chief,

It took me 2 years to get to this point. Started with a JB+ I had in my pocket as I picked up the car in Florida at the dealership. Then it's gradual tweaks until you nearly double the stock power.
My wife has no clue, she thinks all BMWs drive like this. Hers is tuned too so there is a bit of balance. But when we go on trips and rent a car she's always complaining about how it has no "pick-up". She thinks US and Japanese cars are pure junk and under powered. I just let her rant, then affirm that we made a good decision to get 535s. Grown up cars.

To anyone in the NY metro area I wanted to give a shout-out to my tuning shop on Long Island. Camber Toe Performance, 659 Merrick Road, Lynbrook, NY.
They have installed ***, FMIC and RBs, done alignments, suspension work. But most of all their holistic approach means that my car runs like new.
This is because they don't just fix what you ask them to do. They also spot problems before they appear and address weaknesses so you don't have disastrous break downs later. Everything is done at a very fair price, and they clearly don't count the extra hours they put into a job. The fact that they do the job right allows me to sleep well at night, how rare is that in this business?
Another thing I appreciate is that as knowledgeable as they are, they never act arrogant or superior. We simply share information, discuss the best course of action, and then do it. F.ex. they really liked the RB PCV valve, something new for them to share with customers.
The owners are ex BMW master techs who got fed up with stealership practices and decided to run their own operation. They started with friends and family, and that's how they prefer to work. They have my utmost respect and backing.

We gotta see a video up soon. I've seen just the M5board videos of the E9Xs with RBs, but it would be great to see an E60 as well. Forget gunning it in the videos, even just light highway pulls would be awesome.

Reading about the turbos going out around 80K is a bit scary, although I'm just over halfway there. But with a stock setup, maybe 80K won't be as bad as those that have been tuning for more than half their car's life.

A tune is really rough on stock turbos. Especially if you don have ********* ***.
Our 535s have a stock max boost of around 8-9 psi. But the exhaust gases are ejected at 3.5x force, so around 30 psi at full throttle. It immediately hits an S-curved kink then runs into a C.A.T. The heat is over 1,600F. Multiply that scenario over thousands of hours, not pretty.
Now consider a car pushing 17-18 psi. More than double the force hits the waste gates, and they are sort of flimsy.
My car has been tuned for the past 24,000 miles, half of that before I added ***.

Now for some truly good news. RBs are totally reworked inside. Everything is high grade, super strong metal, aircraft grade. You have to hold one of these in your hand to appreciate how vastly improved they are over the stockers. The waste gates are these heavy duty thick lids made of cast billet! They are gonna hold up a lot longer than stock, no doubt about that.

I am definitely getting RBs. I have no excuse as Camber Toe is only 5 blocks away from me. Thanks for the writeup Ocean. Definitely entertaining, and dyno it!

True story. The wastegates are made from proprietary high heat anti-wear matched components, all CNC'd out of billet materials. There is no better combination of anti-wear components that are available, and every single wear component has been replaced with these highest of grades components. Unfortunately they come at a cost which just raises the price of the turbos, but the hope is that by using the best mileage is maximized before wear ever becomes an issue.
