Received today and installed, thanks! The install took about 10 minutes once I had the cowl off. The stock valve is definitely rubbish - mine's done 45K and I can blow through it when it's closed with very little effort...

Glad to hear you are liking the new part and it installed very easily.

Have several more of these if anyone is interested.

I would actually be a little concerned as the tabs are what hold the PCV Valve in place. Did you happen to snap a pic of how bad it is? Would it seem like the cap would still keep the PCV adapter mounted flush in its seat?

I believe there are still 3 tabs left. If so it should be ok... But that is just a best guess. In the interim Id try to source a new cap (no idea where you can get it new or easily though?)

Not a bad idea at all... The valve covers/gaskets are known to go bad and cause issues as well.

I can vouch for that, my valve cover cracked clear through at 43,000 miles and was spitting oil into the engine bay and leaking down into the plugs. I kept smelling burnt oil in the garage, only way to see the crack is to take the engine cover off.

Rob,
What do make of this:

I took my car to the dealer today for a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust and if I let it sit (it sometimes smokes from the left side of th motor) but doesn't do ths when driving. I took the car in fully modded....your valve included.

Here is what they said:

My issue is caused by the aftermarket BOV since the charged air is vented to the atmosphere and not back into the crank case and is causing blow by to drip onto the turbo.

This sounds to me like a leaking valve cover, I don't see how I have that much blow by since I have your valve and a BMS OCC. I am going to the dealer to pick up the car and get more info but would like your input before I go.

I am taking this info to the dealer....I agree!

What do you make of these pics? Looks like oil is dripping down on the turbo from the valve coverer to me.

Could be oil filter housing gasket leaking. Very common issue, especially leaking on front turbo as in pic. Or valve cover gasket as well. Hard to tell. Either way, that shouldn't amount to smoke out the exhaust as it should a oil spot in your driveway.

Rob

Rob
Oil filter gasket was replaced with a oil cooler kit with a housing unit so it has to be valve cover I am guessing.

Default BS!!! - 09-19-2012, 06:23 PM

Look at this BS!! Saying my BOV caused oil to get into the turbo housing....no way possible. I would say it is a turbo seal, when the car sits it blows out smoke (burnt oil) then all is good...it is not condensation although I am sure a bit is mixed in. But noway in hell is this caused by a charge pipe and BOV, they would know that if they ven investigated it....they found all this out in 30 mins? The real kicker is I have a nissan warranty and they have no issues with the mods so BMW could do whatever work thy wanted and get paid LOL!!

I do have a new check valve but has a busted bottom clip (they didn't notice that either) but I doubt this is causing the smoke issue would it Rob? The check valve is not really sealed in there tight with 2 clips lol!!

If you replace the valve cover gasket yourself, can take some pictures or a small DIY guide? I'm leaking oil and I'm pretty sure it is from the casket.

If I end up doing it myself, I'll document it.
