Default Map 2 320i !!!\>_</!!! - 08-09-2016, 10:54 AM

After reading through threads I was confused whether the 320i was able to use maps other than 5. From what I'd gathered I wasn't sure whether the other maps settings had peak boost settings over 20psi or if maps like 1 and 2 simply added 4-6 psi on to stock. In the case of the 320i with stock boost at 8 psi (rather than 17), it sounded like maps 1+2 were potentially like a stage 1 tune (bringing it up to 12-14psi).

Just tried map 2. It's considerably faster than map 5! The boost is definitely set to a height, fixed peak boost. In map 2 my logs show me getting 3-5 more psi than in map 5. I am running full bolt ons, with a mix of 93+ octane, and the tune seems to like that.

Does anyone have any experience with other maps on the 320i? What is your favorite map and what kind of gasoline do you use?

Also, are there any other supporting parts recommended? I just ordered an oil catch can as well as the new jb4 so I will have FF wore and EWG control. I'm currently running jb4 (maps 1, 2, and 5), FMIC, **, intake, and exhaust.

I'm currently running Map 1 on my 2012 320i with limit set to 23psi peak boost... tried running on Map 2, but when I went out WOT, it seemed to drop straight back to Map 4 (Safety Map) probably due to experiencing lean AFR's... i haven't yet got a log on map 2... so i'm glad to hear you have been using map 2 with no problems....

got any map 2 logs to share?

F30 320i Alpine White 8AT

A bigger FMIC should do the trick. I'll do a log next time I fill up with right gas.

I recently exchanged a couple of emails with Ando at BMS about this. Specifically, the question was whether the it was OK to run map 1 or map 2 on a stock 20i engine with EWG. Extracts of replies below:

You should be using map 5 only. It's targeted 17psi peak. Remember your car only makes 8 psi in stock form.
Map 1 is 21 psi peak

You could use map 1 to get another 4 psi over map 5, but run running so much more boost than stock can cause issues as the JB4 is having to work far away from the stock mapping values.
It works best at 4-8psi over stock. At 10psi+ over stock fuel trims can max out, timing can be too high, etc.

why to do i have the feeling there is something amiss here.....
map 1 and 2 on the pwg end are target whilst on the ewg is additive.. so the logging should demonstrate max at 12 and 14 as stated above

Yes, this is what I thought too, but contacted BMS to confirm (i.e. 8+4=12psi on map 1 and 8+6=14psi on map 2, so safe to use any of maps 1, 2 or 5 on 20i models with EWG), but this doesn't seem to be the case.

My car is Z4 20i N20B20A PWG compress ratio 10:1 with JB4.

It's running at MAP1 for 5 years extremely smoothly.

This is a log ran in a very very hot summer night with 89OCT/92RON. Please ignore the urgly IGN.

The ECU PSI can reach more than 10PSI while the target can reach 21PSI.Actual boost can reach ~20PSI. AFR is 11.1 in high rpm.

But I think it still has the +10PSI hard limit of JB4. Any one knows how to bypass it?
