I have a 2010 E92 with the M Sport wheels. Is it possible to increase tire width
to 255 front and 285 rear by having the wheels widened by 1 inch? What offset would I need so they fit and with X drive the big question is do the front and rear tire diameters have to be the same or is it ok if the front diameter is less than the rear?

Front and rear tires don't need to be the same size.

255/285 is the same size.

It's what I run on my Xdrive E60

I'm at +38 front and +40 rear.

as long as you have the same rolling diameter you can run whatever tire sizes you want as to whatever your car allows without rolling fenders. you can run diffrent tire od if you run xdelete without causing issues to your transfer case.
