Just like the title says, it looks like the n54 was produced up until 2016- can those engines be easily swapped into older e60's or e90's?

I don't see why not. Bear in mind that E60s use a different rear turbo than the E90, so I'm not sure about the Z4s. Maybe check part numbers on realoem for some of those parts to ensure it fits.

I just upgraded turbo's on my E60 and it seems the E90 LHD is the odd one out with the 1,5,Z4, 335 RHD all sharing the same rear turbo. YMMV
