Does anyone have some insight on what power levels the OEM head bolts are good for on the N54?

Looking to run daily at ~600-650rwhp, and turn it up for ~750 when looking for a little more fun. Debating if I should get a set of ARP studs at that level.

Are you building the motor at all ?

Yes - rebuilt head, head and block decked, block bored for JE 0.5 over pistons, Molnar rods, new bearings and seals for everything. I checked clearances for everything last weekend, all good. I'm just waiting on the oil nozzle alignment tool to get in from Germany and then I'll assemble the block next weekend.

Having second thoughts on not getting ARP studs, so here I am.

I just haven't found good info on the stock head bolt limits. I know I'll be fine on the daily side, but am unsure once I'm in the 7XX range. I won't be seeing more than 32psi from a 6466. Daily will be in the ~24psi range.

For a build like that I would think it would be a no brainer. I even used ARP studs on my very mild 1.8T.

Goes both ways, it'll be a no brainer to not pay 5x and use OEM head bolts if they'll hold just fine. Any input from previous experience or data would be great if people have experience.

I guess we disagree on the value of insurance and peace of mind. 5x makes it sound a lot more dramatic than if you were to just say the $200 that the difference is. What percentage would that be of the cost of the total engine?

I see your point, but if the head bolts hold just fine - there's absolutely no need to spend additional money. If others have found that they don't, I'll buy the studs.

Just looking for information on the question at hand.

Maybe I have a miracle engine but I have done so many pulls at 32 and my engine still holding well!!!!!!
