I had a rough idle this morning and decided to do a spark plug change. While taking off the engine cover I noticed oil around the plugs (pictured below). Would I need a new valve cover or would a new gasket with new bolts be sufficient?

While replacing the gasket, look for cracks! Either way you will need to do the gasket. You're prob better off just getting a whole kit and changing cover as well.

As long as the valve cover is not cracked or warped and you don't have any PCV issues, you probably don't have to replace it, although at very high mileage it might be worth doing as preventative.

Looks like a crack just to the right of the injector fuel rail to me.

Not from being cracked, but the PCV valve screws into it and there are various channels that run through the cover which can get clogged with carbon/gunk. I remember someone once sawed and old one in half and it was almost completely blocked off.

Thank you, Im replacing my gasket this month and will look for that too.
