E90 M3 Gauge Cluster Retrofit? -
07-31-2013, 06:01 AM
I know its a direct plug in, but my question is will JB4 be compatible with it? I want to do the gauge cluster swap because the M3 one reads 200 mph and it is important since my car does just that.
Thanks

Would be cool to see if Terry could get the variable redline arc to operate like it does on the M3.

Not to get your thread off topic but I have to verify this statement.
You have a N54 that will hit 200mph?

I can confirm that with the proper aero mods that car will do 200 mph with fair ease. With FBO, E84, JB4 and meth running a super agressive setup I hit 196ish. I know for a fact a smoother underbody to diffuse the air, a great lip and a wing on the back will easily be able to put at me the 200 MPH mark. 19s will help as well. I thought it would be cool to get the E92 M3 gauge cluster to give me a somewhat accurate visual up to 200 without the use of a vbox. (Of course for a recorded top speed run [on the track of course ] would be measured with a vbox)

I understand what your trying to achieve but the speedo wont be accurate. BMW's are known to read 6% higher then the actual speed your traveling. The faster you drive, the more the speedo is off. Your better off just confirming it with the VBOX.
I agree however that it would be cool to retro fit the M3 speedo, especially with the DCT lights working with the 335i's

I have employed an aerospace engineer with 13 years of experience with NASA to assist me with this project He is very qualified with CFD software so this is going to be a great product that I will want to get wind tested. I am going for a three piece underbody panel in three sections basically. Ive created a rough design of it out of aluminium and we are almost into production of a CF finished product No one else has made this for an E92 that I know of so I think I am the first
Waiting to see if I can hear from Terry about this gauge cluster

Thread officially off topic lol.
Still curious to hear more about this 200mph deal. I assume you're not doing this on the factory suspension?

They do not create a low enough pressure underneath the car. Ever seen how racecars have those really cool rear diffusers underneath at the rear that have the vertical fins? I am working on a whole setup.

Well I did 196 mph on stock suspension and let me tell you, it was scary as hell. I wont do it again. I am gonna get the Bilstein B16/PSS10 Ride Control Coilovers. I want the cluster for novelty mostly. I know its pretty inaccurate. I just want the cluster to keep up with what I am saying.
Edit: Possibly stupid question, but does anyone know how to get a hold of Terry? I cant message him? :/

Yea, the stock suspension really gets hairy after about 160. The highest I've ever been was about 180 before I ran out of balls lol.

Yeah I feel you there. 180 was the safe limit for me but she got pushed a little more than she should have I would like to eventually sell this kit I am working on. It would be cool to have other tres tres cinqos hitting 200 with me

I was busy up until a couple days ago swapping an N54 into an E46 but now I am getting back to work on my E92. I am doing an S85 stroker build so now I really need the M3 gauge cluster

Very cool mod! Tasteful gauge/cluster mods have always given me the jollies since the TRD 10K tach for the Supra.
I'd be interested to see this same retrofit to F30/F32 from future M3/M4s.

why do you want to buy a new cluster.. Why dont you just enable digital speed on your cluster (thru coding) then enable the option to read the true speed on your car not the one in the needles..?? Thats how i have it.. Even tho if you buy a new cluster and tryng to read the speed, its not going to be accurate on the new cluster...
