I think it can affect any car - and in different ways. Terry's JB3 rattle fix, fixes some rattles, on mine it made it worse.

I just brought my 2007 335xi in because of the rattle. They told me the wastegates were in fact, bad and while replacing them the said the Turbos needed to be replaced as well. They had to wait for the wastegates to show up and so I asked if there was any danger in my continuing to drive the thing and they insisted it was fine. They replaced everything under warranty. Two days later the SZL switch died between turning off the car to install my JB3 and turning it on to make sure it was installed properly (thanks Terry for the help!). In the meantime I had also installed an OCC, the BMS DCI intake, a new CP and diverter valves. My SA loved the work - asked if I wanted a part time job, lmao. I think I love my dealer.

I realised after months of sorting a miss-fire that I had the rattle. Mainly on start-up. This is before any tuning. When you don't know what it is, the rattle on cold start just sounds like a BMW funny but now I know what it is (thanks to this great forum) I wish I had got them to fix it while it was under warranty.

If you have to ask - you probably don't have the problem.

It sounds like exactly what it is (pretty much) a 1Euro coin tapping against your manifold.

Mine rattles/vibreates from 7k rpm to 3k rpm which is fine. When is was ratling at 1k-3k it was embarrassing in the car parks

I just killed two rattler's.

It's super embarrassing when you have the low rpm loud rattle, couldn't agree more.

A forum member and I took off my exhaust / *** and put the stock ones back on. I have a video on my phone of the rattling shot from under the car with just the ********* on. It did seem to be less pronounced with the stock ***, but, still extremely annoying.

Seriously, imagine a coin be tapped against your manifold really fast. It's a metalic "clapping" sound.

Mine does it during the cold start cycle for 10-15 seconds and then goes away.

I had mad rattle a few days ago. I could tell it was rattling when I was driving through the mall parking lot and I could hear a metal ticking sound coming from the outside of the passenger's window.. (I drive with the windows down)
This was pretty annoying.

It went away after I got passed 5 mph.

It's not my vid but the amount of noise it makes it wouldn't matter which side you where.

You have got oil in it I take it?

You might get 1 second of tappet noise on initial start-up but it should go instantly.

As I say, my w/g rattles for the first 10 seconds or so in the morning.

I get 1 second of this "coin tapping the exhuast" noise, as you describe it, upon start up. It only lasts a second. Is this normally suppose to occur at all? I can't remember if my 07 did it or not.

Anyone else have a split second of rattle on start up? It goes away in less than a second and only happens on really cold days on cold starts. Guessing its oil pumping up to the lifters or other areas. I get no WG rattle on decel or rev down at all, have the upgraded actuators in place. Doesn't sound like the muffler flap issue either.
