Haha.... Perhaps the name oversells the merits of the actual project.

I've been slacking a bit with that working on other features. It hasn't moved beyond the "we found the right can commands" phase yet.

Terry I think it's time to clone yourself to produce half a dozen Terry's with your work load.
Maybe you can add that to the CAN system.

Hey Terry, not sure if it's been brought up or not already since there's about a million pages on this post already but how about getting some rev matched down shifts out of the JB4? I'm assuming that since we can have gear dependant boost then the JB4 must have access to what gear the tranny is in and then match the engine accordingly...

It is possible but not on the radar right now. Would require a lot of safety testing.

Does it only assume first and second gear by the wheel speed?

It comes from the DME itself.

Ok cool, just wanted to plant the seed you know... Lolz, yea I was thinking 370Z style, kinda novelty bit still cool and I would use it... I know it'd prolly take time to perfect but in simple terms it seems easy enough, DME gear sensor and a predetermined engine speed based on DME speed info, prolly be an extensive amount of calculations that my simple mind can't fathom......

Do you think there's some sort of strain gauge in the shifter or is the DME assuming it by wheel speed?

It's pretty spot on with manuals, even goes to 0 during the shift. Must be a sensor.

Terry,
I have a fully stock 335xi (other than JB4 of course!) at 5200 ft elevation. If I planning on running around a 50/50 mix of 91 octane & 100 octane (around ~95-96-ish octane) for either a couple of drag strip passes or dyno pulls, which map would you recommend? Should I stay on Map 1 (car is still stock), or should I bump it up to Map 2 due to the higher knock threshold using higher octane fuel (around 95-96 octane or so)? Thanks in advance!
P.S. The partial throttle boost onset really is MUCH smoother than it ever was on the JB3... I was truly shocked that it was actually so readily noticeable. Very nice

Controller–area network (CAN or CAN-bus) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer.
CAN is a message based protocol, designed specifically for automotive applications but now also used in other areas such as industrial automation and medical equipment.

Just curious if anyone has come across this issue.
Ran map 6 on 93 octane for about a mile...got a SES light..im assuming this is because its not running race fuel....activated the code clearing and went back to map 2 alls well. Just curious

I've ran map 6 and logged a couple runs and I didn't get any codes.
What did you have the boost settings at?

Map 6 is for doing custom mapping. If you don't know how to do custom mapping (including reading any codes you generate) I strongly suggest not touching map 6.

It's just a communication standard the vehicle modules use to communicate with each other. Giving the JB4 the same module allows it to "join the club" and get all the dirt and gossip on the other modules including the DME.
