Extreme 1/4 mile disappointment -
03-31-2018, 09:13 AM
I have a 14 M235i with fabspeed sports ***, ER charge pipe, active autowerke intercooler and JB4. Fuel is 91 octane, about 5/8 tank of gas. Tires were Michelin PSS, rears almost 100% new. Psi around 33.
Went to the 1/4 mile to test it out hoping for at least high 12s and trap speed of around 110, but to my surprise...
1st run: Map 1. ~13.787 @ ~102
2nd run: Map 5. ~13.888 @ ~100
The disappointment is still hard to believe. My 0-60 was around 2.1-2.2 and it was better for the 2nd run, which didn’t help the ET. I will post the time slips soon.
Can anyone explain why my trap speed sucked that much. I don’t really care about the ET since that’s more dependent on the 0-60 but seriously, why such awful results. The 91 octane fuel and 5/8 tank of gas can’t be that bad to make such a difference.
Thinking I should get a dyno or log of the car to see what’s wrong.

It is more than likely due to the low octane. Wont know for sure without logs.

60' with Michelin PSS 2.1 - 2.2sec is decent on drag track without experience. With oem turbos 100oct Map 7 maybe you could reach 108~110mph trap speed.

What about an E85 mix?
Still surprised since I didn't think a higher octane than 93 + FBO was needed to achieve the time and speed that car reviewers were achieving 100% stock.

Maybe something needs to be dial in correctly in order to see stock performance... a run in map 4 just for log is good also.

Yikes those are stock times, JB4 must be disabled? Definitely log it and lets see what's up.

I know, right? Now I'm concerned since I installed it myself. Pretty sure I got all the cables right, since I was able to disable the active sound as well as change maps, so idk what could be wrong.
I just bought the bluetooth connect kit. When I install it, I'll send the logs.

Sounds like your JB4 kicked into map 4 as a safety.
I think that's what happened to mine when I went from 13.3s to 13.8s.
Octane boot and a little E85 will surely help you.
My car has very similar mods and has went 12.6x and it's a heavy convertible.
If the track isn't preped well I have to leave from idle. I usually get 1.98 to 2.0 60' times on a good run and 111mph.

Doesn’t safety mode means that the SES lights flash? I didn’t see that happen. I tested out map 4 vs map 1, but my butt dyno isn’t very reliable and I’m not sure if the difference I felt was just mental. I’m leaning more towards the 91 octane being the problem, but it’s hard to believe that there could be such a difference.

I ran a 13.6 @ 103 or 104 with the JB4 on map 1. I couldn't feel the difference from stock. It wasn't until I played with higher octane that I could feel a difference.

lol you should be in the 11's if you have auto. I did 12.22 @ 113 with 2014 335xi with flash and decàt on 93 pump gas. 12.36 @ 110 on pump 91 map. Although i remember my friend with M235i rwd 6mt fbo did 13.1 as his best time

I'm not sure about the SES light and JB4 safety.
My car acts funny and gives me a drive train malfunction error message if I data log too long, I figured it might have went in to safety mode at that time. I never actually figured out why my car lost 1/2 second.
If you post some logs you will surely get your answer.
