Default Boost leak - no codes (logs attached) - 11-25-2016, 06:08 PM

Hello fellas,

i have recently purchased a 335i and felt like the car is not giving the full power it is capable of. Few month later i installed the JB4 and had few test runs, the tune is amazing and the car is totally different, however i still believed that the car can do better.

So i hooked my laptop to the USB port and pulled some logs, surprisingly my boost was 5.5 ~ 6.2 maximum WITHOUT any codes thrown. So i decided to open this thread so you guys can help me figure our my problem.

JB4 Logs are attached, i tried various maps same result, even map 0.

Low boost could be a boost leak... a large one in your case.... or a bad boost solenoid, cracked vacuum line, hung up WG etc. You can either have the intake system smoke tested for leaks or try the following:

I would start with a hand held vacuum gauge and see how much vacuum you have in each vacuum canister (located near the front of the engine bay on the right side). Engine should be running at idle in neutral. You should see 25 to 28 "Hg at the tanks.

Okay so finally i could find the issue, it was the wastegate actuator, replaced and the car took a whole new level!

However i have 2 things in concern, my boost is reaching 20.4, which is relatively high to what i have installed in the car and it's MAP5.

One more thing, at MAP0 which should be the bypass to stock, the boost numbers are still the same as MAP5, anything to worry about here? Logs attached.

Mods: DCI, JB4 G5, Supersprint Exhaust system without down pipe yet.

Random boost spikes after the throttle closes is not hitting 20.7 of boost.

If you want tuning assistance, post a 3rd gear log from 2K to redline at WOT.

Thanks steve.

I noticed im hitting 20s only when shifting, which according to what i read is normal.

However, shouldn't map 0 be a bypass map? Why its not happening? Ill try to do a better run and post it.

You missed the 3rd gear portion of my description.

Lower FF to 80 and try again but log on map 1.

If you want to run stock boost targets, run map 4.

Do as I suggested and lets see the log on map 1.

You will only change the FF value. Leave DB alone at this time.

I did as told, except changing the map. Totally forgot it!

I'll attach the logs, the boost got better now with 17.5 @ 6K in 3rd gear!

I'll do another run with MAP1 and post the results.

Logs need to be done in 3rd from 2K to redline at WOT.

Timing is poor, looks like you need more octane. E85 or meth an option?

Okay, then you are going to have to stick with map 1 and make the best of it.

I'd log 6-cyl timing and boost limit as needed to maintain good timing.

I just saw your reply steve, what do you mean by log 6-cyl timing and boost limit?

Also, what could cause this issue? Why in MAP4 im still running the same boost at 15-16 PSI? is the wastegate actuator fix have to do anything with this?

Because you are running a flash that is targeting 15-16psi. Do you have menu 4 set to option 2?

Set 6-cyl timing to 5

You may want to read this as well...
