Oh I'm enjoying all the driving and logging and stuff. I log on the same stretch of road but temps here are crazy. Today it was in the 80s. Tomorrow onwards it's supposed to be in the 50s. So yes.
And I'm waiting for Turboh to install an EWG and find out how it went. If it isn't too bad, I might do it myself. I've watched the install on B58s. I wonder if it's the same method and same cable.

Same process and cable, things are just slightly different position
Haha my ambient temps are pretty constant day to day given I live in Hong Kong (though seasonally can range from 50f to 100f). The humidity really kills the power though.
Remember we need to tune for the worst situation (high temps, high humidity) unless you want storage maps for separate prevailing weather conditions

Yes. I could only find one video for a B58 and a few write ups. Apparently I have to remove the stock air box. Wonder how that is done. Let me try just removing the box first and if that is possible, the rest of the install shouldnt be too bad.
And yes. I wish we had more consistent ambient temps here. It'll be fall soon abd then winter. With winter, the quality of gas also goes down. But lower ambient temps so yes. Can't wait to try out the new settings you sent and see how that works!!

Gimme a map 3 and map 6 next time you head out, let's plot out acceleration curves this time. Separately if you have dragy try a standing launch on both maps to see if we can find those shift gremlins you mentioned

I just saw this message. I'll try get a map 3 vs map 6 tomorrow. I got a map 6 with the latest settings and a map 0 for comparison. The map 0 throttle looks weird. Not sure why. I didn't feel anything but when I look at the graph, it's all over the place.

Yeah the throttling I think is from stock ECU's behavior when ECU PSI is close to the boost target, it tends to use the throttle in conjunction with the wastegate to control boost aggressively and preemptively I think. You don't see that much throttling on your additive maps because the ecu PSI is so far from DME BT
THis is a different cause of throttling than my other thread regarding the 20i engine (which I think you were also on, just want to make sure there's no confusion)
Looks like our suspiscion was true about the ign drop at 2500-3000rpm, it seems hardcoded into the stock ecu tune so there's actually not much we have to worry about there. We can boost back up the additive at the bottom end
lets go with
1000 @ 4.0
1500 @ 4.0
2000 @ 4.5
2500 @ 5.0
3000 @ 5.7
3500 @ 6.7
4000 @ 7.2
4500 @ 7.7
5000 @ 8.0
5500 @ 7.5
6000 @ 7.0
6500 @ 6.5

Yes. I understand it's different from the issue you faced Do you think traction control on can cause such an issue with the throttle? I don't remember if I turned it off for the map 0 logs. I know I turn it off for all other logs but for some reason, can't remember if I did with map0.
I'll try that tomorrow hopefully along with map 3. I'll also try and get another map 0 log just to be sure.

Absolutely not, there's no way you're breaking loose in 3rd gear ESPECIALLY when u have xdrive. You're looking at something like 0.5G's of peak acceleration in 3rd, well within even what the RWD platform can handle (~0.7G's with regular street tires)
Unless you're on really ****ty tires driving on like gravel or sand or something your traction control isnt doing anything on a 3rd gear pull

Yup. The car definitely didn't lose traction. And no gravel. Tyres are ****ty but it isn't bad in a straight line with stock power. Just thought that might be a rare possibility but it isn't. Let me see if I have any other old map 0 logs. But I doubt it. I've driven in map 0 only twice or thrice at most.

dont worry too much about throttle action in map0
1) you're not gonna run map 0 and your map3/6 are fine
2) it is really likely it's just the stock ecu's behavior when ecu psi (what the ecu "sees') gets close to DME BT and the ecu "knows" it's going to command a BT drop

Yup. I'm not too worried. Just that I didn't think the throttle action would be that weird.
Car felt good today with the latest map 6 numbers (the ones I logged today). I think the jerk I felt with the previous values was probably because the car didn't have time to adapt? I drove around a bit today before logging and it felt like it adapted (initially it felt a wee bit hesitant but that went away after driving around).
Some more logs tomorrow hopefully if it doesn't rain. And I keep forgetting to check if I'd be able to install the EWG myself without any issues. Hopefully I can remember that tomorrow as well.

What flash tune are you looking at? BM3? Is your DME unlocked?
I was going through my old logs and surprisingly, found two map 0 logs with v15 that I did long ago. Posting them below for an idea of how the car behaved.

BM3 makes the car alive. Basically same output as the 30i cars.
MG flasher also has a good tune apparently.

Got a couple of logs with the new map 6. Couldn't do a map 3 for now but I'll see if I have a few old ones which should basically be the same.

We're at the stage where comparing logs from different days is more of a liability than an asset now
In these new logs on new map 6 dme BT is lower than the pervious map 6 settings so your actual boost is less but we have no idea whether it is simply environmental or something we should actually be thinking about.
We are definitely in the "annoying stage" now

So you think this is worse than the previous values?
The car feels fine. I’ve noticed that boost 2 still only hits around 21.4 which it did even before (same as on map 3). It’s not a bad thing. I’m just not sure how all these boost readings work. Sucks being a noob.
I did a WOT run from a traffic light to a point that I keep as reference. I know it is far from scientific. But what I noticed was that, with the latest map 6 setting, I easily hit 72MPH, whereas with map 3 and other map 6 values, I could barely hit 68 before having to slow down. And the difference was definitely noticeable. Car definitely felt like it was pulling harder but yea.
No dragy numbers for now because the first dragy died and I had to return the second one since it arrived with a dead battery. I thought I’d hold off buying the third one for a bit because of my luck with it. But yes. I wish I could dragy the latest map 6.
Does the log look fine? The timing drop isn’t as bad in this map right?

Yes it looks fine
I think we leave it here and wait for the EWG install update from the other guy?

I think that is a good idea too. You have no idea how much I appreciate all the help. As soon as I hear from turboh regarding how the install went, I’ll buy the ewg. In fact, I’m thinking of ordering it and keeping it with my just in case.
I checked the BMS website and saw one for the B58 only. Not B46/48. I’m guessing it’s the same cable though.

My EWG connector reaches on Monday. Hardest part of the install will probably be getting it into the port in the JB4 module. :D

Just ordered mine. Just be sure you enter into right pin hole numbers. Male and female connector numbers are mirror images. Hope to see a better EWG response. Stay in touch.
