Default 140010 140110 140001 After Battery Drain. - 08-17-2020, 04:30 PM

Hello There!
Please excuse the long story here:

I had my F30 (see details in my signature, 45K miles on it) parked for several months now with very low low usage (few short drives) because COVID so my battery which was almost new advised it was low almost every new start.

I started to have missfires at WOT (or more than 60%) and some JB4 to OBDII disconnects so I performed all the following workarounds making new several tests after almost each:
1) Full charged my battery
2) Moved to MAP 0 and traction control off and checked all JB4 connections including DBs ports on board (for sensors and OBDII and for BT Interface). Also cleaned ODB Car side connectors and small in-cable connector cleaning and contact improvement covering everything with silicon.
3) Reset corresponding bit advising JB4 I have MHD. Set to 0 and back to 1 again.
4) Downgraded the JB4 firmware to previous version.
5) Reflashed MHD and backend map PWG3 RACE last release, 5 I guess.
6) Again Map 0 and 4.
7) Replaced all 6 Spark Plugs.. Used ones looks in very good shape.
8) Performed the complete misfiring troubleshooting procedures on ISTA (please note there were no misfires when not at WOT): Testing injectors, coils, HPFP, return valve, sparks, mixture deviation, etc. All was OK.
9) Injectors cleaning process from ISTA.
10) Clearing all adaptations from ISTA.
11) MAF, MAP manual Cleaning.
12) Checked for leaks in the complete intake side.

As my JB4 has been working very well for more than a year (except for AT Temp reading which is now working!) it was the last thing I tested today. So I removed the JB4 letting MHD as it was after several runs I confirmed there are no more misfires.

My conclusion is JB4 might be sensible to low voltage operation increasing some internal currents causing any kind of partial damage but any suggestions are welcomed. Forgot to mention I made sure to use the gas I normally use plus octane increase additive on 35 lts. which don´t feell may add more than .5 octs
What i would like to do bext is to replace the JB4 board. I agree on pay on part of it of course but I am not sure on how to process this transaction.

Attached are my last runs on Maps 2 and 1, Sport + at different Water, Oil, AT Oil temperatures. JB4 Firmware on last version for PWG, back end flash PWG3 RACE last release, 93 Oct + octane booster.

Thank you!

Seems like temperature is an important factor because even if service temp is reached problem persists... it has to be quite more hot to work right ...

Conclusión update after testing today is JB4 was no the cause ... I am flashing back to original the ECU (removing MHD).

If problem persists.. it might be a pump issue, either low or high pressure lacking volume or even worst.. an engine issue ( bad valves seating or so since old spark plugs didn’t have a trace of oil)
I will keep you all posted

MHD Removed..
Tested twice and seems to be working right...

Installing back JB4 w/o MHD and awaiting to coold down since temp seems to be a failing factor.

Important to note used back end map is PWG3 RACE is intended for:

RACE: Intended for use on pump fuels and E85 mixtures up to 50%.

I am actually using 93 Oct.

However, it was working before for many months.

more test to perform ...

Ups!!

Incredible ... and ashamed for this..

I had two codes saying General misfiring and only happened on high load and more than 3k rpm ... so this is why I was looking for a general failure across several cylinders... however, there was always one more code pointing out to cylinder 1 I always ignored..

2020-08-17 12_28_21:
140010 misfires, more cylinders: Recognized
140110 misfires, cylinder 1: Recognized
140001 misfires, more cylinders: injection is switched off

As you know I performed all tests from ISTA and everything looked great.

Well ... after removing MHD and because same failure remained, i decided to do what I should since the very first time.. to interchange coils 1 and 2 and I got the following

2020-08-18 18_30_57:
140010 misfires, more cylinders: Recognized
140210 misfires, cylinder 2: Recognized
140001 misfires, more cylinders: injection is switched off

So i just replaced failing coil And problem was fixed..

At least we now know coils can pass ISTA tests but fail at higher RPMs.

It was also working well many minutes after engine reached the max operating temp.

In addition... assist the 140010 pointing out to several cylinders it is required to work on those specifically recognized first..

End of story
