Hi all - I just installed a JB4 on my 2022 X3 M40i and have some questions. There seems to be a mix of information out there on the install and am hoping to get some clarity. This is my second JB4 first was on a MK7.5 Golf R and had a great experience.

Is the EWG recommended for the B58 Gen 2 motors? From what I've read browsing this forum the absolute maps are better for Gen 2 motors, but this is not made specific anywhere official. I'm not interested in running anything other than 93 and its not clear what I should be doing here.

Also - What are the default settings I should have in place? There are no clear instructions on what those settings should be anywhere. One of the reasons I bought a JB4 is for the safety features and right now I have no idea if they are configured correctly.

The absolute maps definitely have seen a bit more linear power and more predictability during a pull than the additive maps. EWG is recommended, but not a requirement.

Thank you for the quick response. I updated all of the defaults and tried out map 1, which felt great in my very short test drive.

In regards to running 93 only for the absolute maps - is this something that you could check by looking at some logs? Hoping to run the best map possible without having to add octane booster or ethanol to my tank

Of course, no problem. Swap over to map 4 and give it a run. Upload some logs as well. Quite the difference in power between map 1 and map 4

Sorry to thread jack, but do you need dyno tune any of the maps or should this be a true plug and play?

For general use...it's plug and play. Dyno tuning is for more advanced setups with upgraded turbo(s), fueling, etc. It never hurts to dyno tune if looking to push the limits but it's not a requirement for the standard maps.
