Wondering if anyone can give some insight to my problem. Most mornings for the past few months after the car has been sitting overnight, when I start it up, I'll get the gear symbol stating there is a transmission malfunction and it will not let me shift from Park. The car is an 08 335xi sedan automatic. Now, after a few seconds to a few minutes, the gear symbol will just disappear and I can shift and drive like normal.

I had it at a shop last month and they told me they could not replicate the problem nore found any codes. Now, when I cannot wait for the error to disappear on it's own in the mornings, I can just pop open the cover by the shifter and manually lift up the little lock lever and I can shift like normal and the error also goes away as soon as I manually lift up that lever. .

See if it's setting any codes when it happens. INPA, Carly, MHD reader should be able to detect something.
You could also leave it overnight at the shop and have them cold start and check it the next morning. With no codes it's pretty tough to do anything but guess.

The shop had it for 3 days, not sure why they said they couldn't reproduce the issue as it happens way over 50% of the time.

Does anyone know how to code a tranmission? I purchased a 2010 automatic for my 2008 e90. It wont go into sport mode. The shifter works shifting gears up down, paddle shifters work, everything worked fine before the transmission swap. Im getting error code 50870 input error code when i check codes with xhp. Im also getting 5087 hardware inputs with protool. It has to be a coding issue since the mechatronic was not swapped with new transmission? HELP!!!!

I believe protools can code the trans- it’s available via android
