B58 at No Fly Zone CA (11/4/2017) -
11-12-2017, 11:21 AM
Just thought I'd share in the B58 section since a lot of you don't check out the N54 section much. That's typically where Terry posts these racing event results.
I had a blast and I'm really excited to own a B58. Can't wait for further progress as time passes. Car is pretty quick for only a JB4, intake, and meth (MPPSK is basically a sound only mod if you have a JB4). With a bigger turbo, this thing is going to fly!
Map 4: 132.82 MPH
Map 6 @ 17 PSI: 138.38 MPH
Map 6 @ 18 PSI: 140.27 MPH
Map 7 @ 19 PSI: 141.15 MPH
Map 7 @ 23 PSI: 143.40 MPH
Map 7 @ 24 PSI: 144.14 MPH

Wow the stock turbo is holding 24 psi? Seems like you were running out of meth flow and fuel at that boost level.

The B58 firmware always targets 0.3 PSI higher than what you request. So when you enter a flat boost target Map 6 of 18.0 PSI, for example, the logs will show 18.3 PSI as the target.
With that said, a 70 additive shows 24.3 PSI and an 80 additive shows 24.6 PSI. I haven't tried any higher than 80, but I think that's what Terry set the limit to in the firmware so far (24-25 PSI).

Meth flow was well above the required 60% the whole time. I was just fighting air bubbles/leaks for a little bit. I had plenty of fueling, though. I had to keep lowering FOL because my trims were so low. 6th gear just doesn't like this much power and I'm sure the tuning will get better with time. But yes, the AFR, boost, and throttle don't look very good in 6th gear.
Yeah, I think the stock turbo does just fine holding that boost level. Keep in mind most of the testing and logs that are publicly posted are pretty old, so maybe the newer firmware is better for holding that much boost?
For anyone that's interested, I have been able to run 100% pump E85 (not measured/verified) on a 40 add ( 19-20 PSI) and T98. AFR's are very, very safe:
Running methanol will not allow you to run as much E85 in the gas tank, but you could probably get away with a good amount.
I'm going to be doing a bunch of E85 and meth testing in the coming months. I think the external meth tank/pump is really allowing us to bypass the DME's fuel cap since it never gets reached. I know Terry has slowed down the E85 development on this platform since meth and pump gas are simply more convenient. But an E85 station just opened up down the street from me, where the closest one used to be 30 minutes away. It would be nice to be able to run E30-E60 and make lots of safe power on the B58.

What about running straight ethanol in the external tank rather than methanol for the higher fuel energy rating, and then a can of Boostane or torco in the main tank.
That should keep the high energy rating of the petrol but increase the octane rating to that of e85, or there abouts.
I’m currently testing 20% toluene mix with 99ron in main tank, spraying straight meth and works well. Going to start upping the boost additive now.

Nice runs. How are you running 100% E85? The dmebt usually goes down when I add anything over 3 gallons

Yeah, that's what I was running that day (100% T98). I had the max amount of Torco in the gas tank mixed with 91 (32 oz. Torco to 5 gallons gasoline).
This also works well: http://www.kleanstrip.com/product/gr...atured-alcohol. It's 80% - 90% ethanol and 5% methanol.

I was spraying T98 (98% ethanol) so that reduces the DME's fuel requirement by a lot. Even though trims are high on that Map 7 run, AFR seemed to go down like stock.

Just ordered some ethanol to test in the external tank for spraying. Then will test with Boostane in main tank once the toluene mixture has run out. I think Boostane is similar to torco

I actually tested Torco and this, back to back. Sounds corny, but it performed quite a bit better than Torco: http://race-gas.com

Interesting I’m running x98 vp in the BMS tank and I’ve noticed it seems happier. What size nozzles?

Good day racing. And I'm sure we'll be able to squeeze more out of it in good time.
Found my our stock turbo 340 1/2 mile results at shift sector, and its best was also 144mph. So in the ballpark: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37385

So you are using ethanol injection from external tank, and injection from main tank?
Is that the BMS dual spacer for the alcohol? How is the TBI from the main tank sprayed, is it in the charge pipe too? I haven’t seen any pics so unsure how it all works.
