Inside pics of a N54 PCV system -
07-10-2014, 11:52 PM
I decided to replace valve cover so I cut apart old one to see how clogged/dirty PCV was and all I can say is wow! It was clogged in a lot of areas and can see how it would clog easily.
My car specs cover came off
1. 135,000 miles
2. valve cover gasket replaced once
3. always premium gas
4. Motul oil changed every 4,000 miles.
5. Extremely well maintained

Oh wow. I think you have discovered another important preventative maintenence item that we need to watch out for! Is this something that can be cleaned or something that just should be replaced?

Did you notice any hairline cracks in your valvecover? I did mine just before 100k and had a few cracks it seemed developing on it. Plastic valve covers are always a good idea to change out, its just buying those little bolts that KILLS you

Awesome detective work, things like this are great for the community
You don't think we could soak the valve cover in degreaser overnight to clean? I occasionally do the same thing in my E34 M60 intake manifolds because those PCV plates love to spit oil into the covers and make a mess....it works very well to clean them out (soak in degreaser, then rinse).

You may be able to do that but if you have it off I would just replace it.
