Default Intercooler mister... - 06-19-2014, 07:43 AM

Anyone run any type of misting setup?

I see a high degree of temperature rise while idling and after a pull.

I've read on other forums where people have see success with an external mister to pull some heat from the IC.

I was thinking something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/ACI-99300-Wind.../dp/B00495UQT2

$13 bucks, plus figure 5-10 more for some finer nozzles.

Might be worth a shot?

Couldn't hurt...they do help, I know at the drag strip I go to the water station between runs to spray off the intercooler, cools IATs down by about 20deg. People also use nitrous spray to cool, but that seems like more hassle than its worth.

Ive asked about this before as well and never got an answer. The evo/subi crowd swear by em, and while the fmic and meth really do a great job, im usually seeing 120* or more IAT in the staging lanes... anything to bring that down a little would be awesome

I know the guys with top mount ic like to lay a bag of ice on top while waiting

I think it's easy, someone has to try it sooner or later..
why not on the whole radiator not just the intercooler ?

If the track people catch you droping water on the track they will kick you out.

Yeah be careful with that....have to stop it before you hit the track and make sure its done dripping. That's why I like the water station, it's done dripping by the time I line up again.

wth, i think a drop of water might make the car behind you slip & lose traction... but still not on street & not where i live it's a must even with upgraded ic the temperature here reaches 50 degree Celsius (122degrees Fahrenheit). so if it works with stock this is a bright idea

Just bought the pump & reservoir, I want to wire it to my JB4 and use the meth controller to power the pump.

Anyone know if this is feasible? Without the "FSB" control box that BMS makes...

I just need switched 12v power based on some criteria, I think throttle position or boost psi...?

which one did you buy ? so you don't have the Meth. kit ? I saw a video attached with throttle I have no idea how, would appreciate if you posted pictures where you're mounting & how to install it.

Will do, I'm considering buying a boost pressure switch from eBay and throwing a T into my Vac line and having the pump running off this switch @ any boost level above 7 or 10psi. These are about $30 and super easy to setup

I don't have a meth kit, I just bought this http://www.amazon.com/ACI-99300-Wind.../dp/B00495UQT2

and will probably buy a boost pressure switch from eBay if I can't run the pump off my JB4 directly.

How is installing this any harder than a meth kit which will give significantly better gains?

If it's possible, to do it with map switch like map 1 or any ect. under certain load from throttle this would be awesome

Cheaper and less risk of catastrophic failure if pushing the car hard, I just need some slight additional cooling with my stock FMIC

A <$40 mod to reduce IAT by ~20* is worth it for me...

Lol good to know what that stands for.

Still don't like the idea of running octane levels below what my car needs to run proper timing. I know W/M injection has been extensively tested but I'm just "trying" to stay away from it... for now

Same here, I just got a reply from tuningwerk which are great company for tuning in Germany asking about products for 328i F30 & of course they offer much more for 335i but that was their reply, so I guess I can manage larger fan which I am hoping with this mod can make an effect.

- Inter cooler
- Additional Cooling Kit (depends on your VIN)
- Larger Vent. (bigger fan)
- LSD (here we have professional multi disc LSDīs, no torsion toys) 90% lock

I understand dropping temps prior to a run, but how is this helping once you under acceleration 1-2-3-4- gears ?

without spraying the intake reached 65 degree, after spraying for couple seconds it was lowered to 51 degree that's 14 degree Celsius in a 50 degree HOT day !!

I tried this with my windshield washer tank.removed the line going to the windshield sprayer and extended the line to the front. Bought 2 spray nozzles and hooked it up.it was activated by pulling in the windshield washer lever. it worked great the first time but the issue was that it acted like a siphon. It would pull all the water that was in the take because the tank was higher than the nozzles. It may need a check valve for this setup to work also.
