Kickdown blocker DIY -
10-24-2012, 05:20 PM
Hey guys,
We've been toying around with making a nice CNC machined kick down blocker for automatic transmissions. Also considered doing an electronic one. But other projects have become a higher priority and this simple DIY works pretty well.
Kickdown blocking is useful for the following:
1) When drag racing it allows you to perform a 2nd gear launch without accidentally downshifting in to 1st gear. Critical for good track times with boosted automatics.
2) When doing dyno testing this will prevent you or your unaware dyno operator from pressing the kick down during a run ruining the run.
3) Some of us prefer to manually downshift when racing and this eliminates the chance of the car downshifting when we don't want it to.
The photo shown is a 135 gas pedal. The 335 pedal is a little different but the same basic procedure should work.

It's not every day you stumble across a <$10 DIY that works exactly the way intended, will never fail, and tremendously stealth!

I'll take a few photos on the 335 gas pedal implementation tomorrow. The 535 uses the same pedal as the 335 as far as I know.

Is there any situation that you would actually want the kickdown to work?

I guess in others words...what is the drawback to doing this mod?

no, say you are in 3rd and you slam on the gas...it ill kick own to 2nd and your rpms will shoot up and yiu are out of the powe band and loose power and go to redline in a instant....with the mod it stays in the gear you want.
