I hit a dog back in February and buddy of mine was going to repaint it. That plan fell through and I finally got around to doing it myself, first time ever painting. what do you guys think?

How did you do that? Ive tried painting at home and it came out like crap. What equipment did you use (spray cans or brand of gun) and where did you buy the paint and clear (what brand)?

Im looking to buy a Msport kit and want to learn how to paint at home + save money.

A friend of mine used a spray gun called Astro 2PG7S, told me he had no issues with it. As for the spray cans, I have no idea

ive used rattle cans from a online company called Automotive Touch up, their paints are vin matched and can get them in cans or a gun setup, both their GM Maple red metallic and BMW Black sapphire Metallic were dead on on 10 year old vehicles im no expert but my rattle can jobs always end up with that orangepeel texture so I found I can make pretty much any crap paint job look factory with wetsanding 1000,2000 to 3000 grit sandpaper then a foam pad on a cordless drill in my case for a pass of rubbing compound then a pass or 2 with polish

Sorry for the delayed response. Basically a lot of research and a lot of methodical work. I used a 21gal HF compressor, HF spray gun kit. Paint was from scratch wizard. On youtube DIY Auto School as a lot of videos and good information. So I'm going to try and be concise. Lots of sanding. I used u-pol 706 to fill imperfections. Primered with a soft edge. 2 coats of color. 3 coats of clear. Sanding with appropriate grits prior to painting. I think the key that a lot might skip. Is using a tack cloth between coats on the clear coat. This makes sure no debris sticks to it and it turns out smooth in the end. I also practiced on a motorcycle fender before hand to make sure it all was going to work. With 3 coats of clear or more you can also wet sand and buff if needed. Just do your research until you understand it all. Take your time and dont rush and it should turn out good. Thanks for the compliments!
