Yeah it does really suck. Its a bad situation. I am going to make a cap, but it will have a major note saying may damage valve cover... lol. But at least it is a solution for those in this massive bind. I hate not having a solid answer for these guys, but it is what it is for now...

Rob,
Payment sent!
For the replacement cap issue, could you manufacture something but charge a premium to help recoup your R&D? If I understand right, to fix the rare crack issue it would require a new valve cover + gasket (might as well put a new one on if your pulling the cover). This would be around $400 without labor...
With a replacement cap you would not need to pull the cover right? I would say you could sell this cap for $200 to those few in need. Some might think this is a rip off for a cap but those who find themselves in this spot would more likely see this as a cost savings!
If I missundstood any of this please excuse my ignorance and send me hate PM's! lol

I'm not big on gouging like that. Agree though it may take a very long time until I get into the "green" with them at the rate they will sell. Should have them ready in a couple weeks, and my guestimate is that they'll likely be around $50 bare aluminum or $60 black anodized, shipped.
Thanks,
Rob

Guys, sand the cracked cap very well and use JB Weld. It will work fine plastic or not. I've heard of engine blocks repaired with JB Weld. And I have been using it for 20 years with no problems at all. Once employed, it's almost as hard as steel. It will stick. It is a 2-part epoxy that you mix 1:1. Apply it all around the cap (careful, not on threads) if that will make you feel better. Let's quit drooling like morons about this problem, and use JB Weld.

Or, if you don't want to mess with JB-ing it, or want a temporary fix before Rob's aluminum replacement cap arrives, use JB Weld and wait for the new cap from Rob. He's a square shooter.

I'm with OB as well, have seen some crazy stuff be held together by JB Weld. Not quite ideal and something I'd not personally prefer to use long term (provided there's another sound and affordable solution), but some patience during application should get you out of a bind in the interim.

I'm kind of hoping that will happen- that some people may want it just for a safety back up or that some others just because it's aluminum so may look cooler. But if people only buy it based on need, it will easily take upward of 5 years to come out even. haha.

I bit the bullet and purchased a new valve cover. At least now I can follow the DIY for changing my valve gaskets too as I have 58K. Just remember people, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

I've heard of many cases of defective/cracked valve covers... If your old one is good it may have some value. But yeah that gasket replacement is pretty critical as well, very well known to go bad. It should be standard to replace as the oil filter housing goes... Since they are practically the same thing and are exposed to the same conditions on a particular vehicle.

The PN is in the first post of this thread.
"Just to note the OEM BMW Check valve hose part # is 11157553949"
It is about $25 from Tischer.

Please PM me the date you sent payment and also include confirmation of the paypal address you sent payment to... (spent about an hour looking through all my slips the other day in a similar issue only to find out they had sent the paypal to the wrong address). Once I have this info I can get the tracking, just takes a while as I have lots of papers to go through for this information.
Thanks,
Rob
