I need one of these !!!
My local dyno shop is c**p - has no idea how to dyno a BMW and wouldn't let me do it - something about insurance ..........

We've been toying around with making a nice CNC machined kick down blocker for automatic transmissions. Also considered doing an electronic one. But other projects have become a higher priority and this simple DIY works pretty well.
|
Any news on this - part of the options on JB4?

Very nice, I was just thinking about this earlier and how annoying it is when the car kicks down when you dont want it to. Definitely doing this tomorrow.

I never added them as I figured they were easy to get everywhere. Next time you order something from us just email me and I'll throw one in the order.

I wouldn't have minded picking one up back around the holidays when I ordered the DCI from you.
I need to so this mod- it's annoying when even in DS mode it'll kickdown gears on you.

Thanks for the DIY Terry, unfortunately I can't find it in Canada...
I guess I'll just shoot you a email to add them in when I order my G5 upgrade.
Now Terry please do all of us auto guys a favour and figure out how to make the transmission not switch gears automatically! Thanks.

I wish we could. The transmission computer is designed to force a shift at redline. Not much we can do about it unless someone release a transmission reflash.

Ah I see... The funny thing is ESS made a flash for the steptronic transmission in the E46 i believe... It's a shame they don't do it for the current bmws considering how many highly modded steptronic guys we have out there.

I don't really think the forcing it to shift at redline is a big deal.... But the annoying downshifts even when in sport mode are aggravating!

I read all of this and still don't understand this mod..? It prevents gear kick down.. but if you smash the gas wouldn't you want it to kick down to the lowest gear possible for maximum acceleration?

The gripper pads are available on Amazon. Just search for: Waxman 4739495N.

note, if you are say in 3rd gear and nail it and don't have the blocker you will go into 1st gear and RPMS will sky rocket and you go out of the power band actually losing power. When your RPMS go high Rask fest your boost will also dip.

I just went and bought these gripper pads from lowes, same brand serial number ect. Only the pads didn't have that same design on them as shown on the website. Also they are squishy, not sure if the original ones are, but they worked at first but after a few wot pulls they stayed squished down and would allow the kick down to be pushed.
