n54 335i -
05-07-2020, 01:53 AM
Hi all,
I am looking at buying a n54 335i as my daily driver. I have read all the horror stories on the forums about their HPFP, injector, thermostat and wastegate rattle problems. I just want to ask all you owners (or former owners) what your experiences have been like with this car. And would you recommend me to buy a n54 335i if I found a clean, unmodified example? Thanks

Just remember to do maintenance before mods and be prepared to spend money. Super fun cars that you can get a lot of power with less money than most. It’s a love hate relationship with an N54 but well worth it!

n54 are the best car you can get for the money only if you can work on the car yourself. If you need to pay for labor to do thinks like oil pan gaskets, oil filter housing gaskets, valve cover gaskets, water pumps, thermostates, turbo swaps, clutch jobs, injectors, high pressure fuel pump, then this is not the car for you. labor cost will kill you with this car. but if you can work on your car and install these type of things your self and you know how to search for parts yourself then yes there is no better car on the market for the money.

I really agree with this answer... I just bought my 335i and i did the first maintenance by myself reading a lot of forums and seeing a lot of videos on youtube and i really happy with my car... is running very well and just spend the money on parts and some tools...

Every problem you read about you will most likely have, they aren’t understated at all. Don’t buy an N54 car without having $2-3000 ready for maintenance.
At the minimum you are going to need injectors, water pump, and all the gaskets
09 335 - 6266
07 335i - 6870, E85 - SOLD
08 335xi - 6466, custom direct port meth - SOLD

A great car IF you know the issues already and as well as money on the side for future maintenance that you can DYI.. Remember one must pay to play
