Default Decisions......B7 RS4 - 12-19-2013, 01:42 PM

My friend has a B7 RS4 for sale and is very tempting.......Anyone have experience with them?

Mechanic owned, recent carbon cleaning, Lamborghini brakes (?), HR lowering springs.....

I could have gotten one of these instead of what my 135i will cost after mods, went with the 135i as it had more potential and the RS4 has basically none in terms of $/benefit ratio mods.

FBO 335xi will be faster than the RS4.

It's in many ways similar to an M3, except for the Quattro set-up.
No point in trying to tune it, so if you like it the way it is and the price is good, then it might be a winner.
It's a nice sounding engine and a compact car. Slower than just about any tuned N54.
The newer TT versions are a different story.

60k miles and $27k pretty good deal.

I just got back from a spirited drive, after I dropped my daughter off at gymnastics, and smiled quite a bit with G5 ISO Map 3 on 60/40 meth and E85/93 in fuel.......If I just invest in a deep growlie exhaust, then I may just keep this car????

I thought the B7 was an Alpina :

2007 E90 335xi 6AT Premium Pkg | JB4 G5 ISO | Cheap custom exhaust: OBX ********* ***, Secondary *** Delete w/ Magnaflow Xpipe | WedgePerformance Backend Flash ("PUMP") | DCI | BMS Cowl Filters | Alpina TCU Software | M3 flappy paddles retrofit | NGK "one step colder" Soon: custom oil cooler retrofit, VRSF 7" FMIC

Just make sure nothing goes wrong with any part of the timing chain system and you are golden. Problems, if they happen, usually start cropping up around 75-80k mi. Any work on the timing chain is an engine-out service since the chain is on the back side.

A good friend of mine owns one. He actually blew the motor up a few months ago. Got into the car one morning and casually drove away from his house. A mile or so away from the house he hears a horrid noise from the cylinder heads. It gets better, he then has a new motor ordered and the shop he had perform the R&R was attempting to get the car running right(timing related..not sure) and thirty minutes and 15k later he's out another engine. He's beyond stressed and has been without car for months. He's had other issues in the past like the suspension system.

This reminds me of the B6 S4 that I had with the plastic chain guides....it did rattle at first start....thinking back, this is one of the big concerns I worried a lot about with the s4 before I sold it. Pretty much the same motors in both these cars, thereabouts.
