Exclamation Jb4 Map 5 - Please review, I have some concerns - 09-11-2019, 04:59 PM

Hi all, I will be investing in a Pure Stage 2 upgrade soon to my currently FBO 135i 2008 N54 (no Meth or E85). I wanted to get a good look at my logs before the upgrade to make sure I am not throwing more power into the equation before everything else looks good.

Attached are two Map 5 pulls, running pump gas 92 oct. This is my first time logging with the 6 cylinder setting turned on, and there appears to be something wrong because I am getting some wild variations in timing between cylinders (Is this timing pull?) I have highlighted my some concerns in my two logs. Please take a look at let me know what you think.

Thanks so much!

EDIT: FYI, I am aware that boost builds pretty slow, I think its due to WG rattle and having to set the WG position down to 1k rpm on the JB settings.

After reading some more, people are saying corrections across across 3 more cylinders like this can be more serious. Am I even safe to get a different tank of gas from another gas station and keep logging in map 1? The timing in these logs is looking kind of scary to me.

Ok I went and did some more logs, This time map 1 while on the old gas, and then two runs on map 2 with the new gas. Specifically, direct your attention to the second run of map 2. The Ign 1 values basically flat-line to 0 so that might indicate that the fuel isn't good enough for this map (right?) but most concerning, the individual cylinder timing is all over the place. What do I make of this?

Do I need new plugs gapped a certain way? No idea what is currently in the car but they were supposedly swapped 10k miles ago.

The timing flat line / corrections imo are likely octane related, possibly old plugs, although if swapped 10k ago- that isnt extremely old- which plugs are you using?

You could throw a bit of ethanol in there 2-3 gallons, and see if that cleans up the timing

Thank you Dave! I will run some logs with some E added to the tank, and report back. I also ordered the recommended NGK plugs.

On my way out of town for the weekend I was able to stop by the ONLY E85 gas station in the Seattle/Redmond area (Snoqualmie) and put 2 gallons in. I ran two logs map 2 after filling up but for some reason my best log didn't save, uhg. Attached are 3 logs, two map 4 logs prior to putting E85 in the tank to have more of a baseline, and one map 2 with the E85 mix. The map 2 log is pretty messy because it started the auto log prior to me shifting into 3rd for the pull. I will say, adding the E85 in made the car feel like a bat out of hell on map 2. Much better than when I ran map 5 with E85 a few months ago.

Do the timing issues look any better with the E85? Seems the ign1 numbers look better, and there isn't many individual cylinder timing pulls. Only thing is, the avg ign seems high at 6.0 - 5.1 for an E85 mix. Shouldn't this be lower? Honestly, this log sucks and I should probably do another one.

Additional question, on some of my logs I get a occasional erroneous IAT values. Is this something I should be concerned with? You can see there is a value here and there, way higher than it should be.

Logs are a bit choppy / as you mentioned.

Low pressure looks to be tired- especially up top.

High timing value- should Learn down the more you drive the car.

A better log, of a full pull would be beneficial

Hi Dave and forum, here are some new logs on map 2 still running the same mix of 2 gal E85 in with 92 oct.

1 - 3rd gear
2 - 4th gear
3 - 3rd gear, the best log 2500 to redline.

How do we look?

BTW Dave, I ordered the stage 2 bucket-less LPFP from Fuel-it so I will be set for the Pure Stage 2 on that front.
