Default Perfect additive map6 setting - 04-06-2019, 12:14 AM

After 3 month using JB4, I have found the best setting of additive map 6 for my car, B48 330i with Stone Eddy d@wnp1pe. Perfect timing profile without any timing drop at 3rd gear, very consistent performance everyday, and smooth acceleration while WOT.

By the way, I don’t have an EWG wire, so I don’t consider to use absolute map 6 setting and am happy with my car now. Thanks to JB4. This is my first time using a piggyback to tune my car.

My setting:
1500~6000rpm, 4.5psi
6500~7000rpm, 4psi

I have tried map0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 as well. My butt dyno can easily feel the performance getting better in the case switching map from map0 to map1, and from map1 to map2, however, it seems not much different from map2 to map3/map5, even with 2psi added. So I started to try additive map6 with flat 4.5psi and 5psi. With flat 4.5psi, I can still feel the better performance compared to map2, but timing drops at high RPM. With flat 5psi, timing drops happens randomly and not much performance different from flat 4.5psi.

Do you have your 5 psi log? The timing drops are probably not random, they are probably due to throttle closure which in turn is due to the DME thinking you’re asking for too much boost. A common issue with B58 (unflashed).

I suppose I should also mention that insufficient octane is another common reason for timing drops but your trims look good so think it’s the throttle. Send a log.

I’m pretty sure B48 330i with 10.2:1 compression ratio doesn’t has throttle closure issue with flat 5psi, or in map3 and map5. My car can run map5 without any problems, but I just don’t like any timing drop in 3rd gear WOT. I am thinking about throttle closure issue in B58 is coming from it’s 11:1 compression ratio. How do you think?

Timing drops at WOT is not “without any problems.” Map 5 requires 93 octane (ideally higher) and/or mods. Your p1p3 helps. Still, your car, your rules.

Here is a hyperlink of my friend’s map3 and map5 on B48 330i as well. You may take a look.
Regarding my other logs, I deleted

I have the identical experience with my B58, 340iX. After many wot’s over the past year and a half, over all temperatures and only 93 octane, no additives, all maps including additive and absolute, map6 4.5 psi flat is best. It is the most stable, smoothest and fastest, acceleration wise. Also, engine stress is less.

I have not understood why, but timing is best using the map 6 additive maps. That is why acceleration best best with less boost.

Nice going!

One more wildcard for ya. Have you tried Map 5 with meth? For me, that is a very nice experience. Not as good as Map 7 when it wants to work, but more consistent and smooth.
