Default Latest JB4 interface software - no reset default option - 07-26-2014, 02:52 AM

I'm trying to reset my JB4 to factory default settings but the option under the File menu (and everywhere else) is nowhere to be found.

I'm not the first owner of the JB4 and really want it reset to factory defaults.

Failing that, can somebody confirm that the defaults do get reset during a firmware update?

Been a while but I've change a couple of settings from default and I'm sure that when I loaded the new firmware it prompted yes/no restore to default.

Mine didn't when using latest interface software and updating to fw 28.

It's been removed from the interface (and from the Android app at Terry's request).

I'm not sure why this has been done but it has.

Mine's a N55 ISO and I don't think I'm on the latest interface so that's possibly why it differs.

Option was removed as it causes more problems than it solves. Just don't change the settings. And if you set them wrong there is a reference with the correct settings under each sticky.

How can resetting to defaults cause more problems than it solves? I've never known anything like this to not have a reset defaults option. As I said before, I'm not the first owner of the JB4 so now I have to go through the whole steering wheel menu and compare against what's on the web site. I really just want it to factory condition including any learning/adaptation. Unless the way a default reset is implemented incorrectly, resetting to defaults is a very handy option.

Sorry, misunderstood you earlier - I was talking about the user adjustments on tab 3 of the interface not the steering wheel options

Can you explain what restoring defaults actually did? What happens to everyone who may have used this option? Just wanted to know what problems it caused.

One example of why I need to reset defaults (that i know of. there are prob heaps more random steering wheel control settings). Meth Flow was 100. The options should be 0, 1, 2 or 3.

For every 1 person that updated from very old firmware and used restore defaults to properly update an old setting 5 people had the wrong drop down selection and changed all the wrong settings for their vehicle. Some guys would run it contentiously resetting their FF & open loop learned values. Overall on the support end we are very glad the "feature" is dead.

Sounds like the process needs better documentation/warnings so that user error is a lot less likely to occur. I just really don't feel that removing the reset defaults just because some people unintentionally did so is the right move.

can you please PM me the most recent interface software installer that did have this feature?

Cheers

Last time it seems that the jb4 interface get´s some updates.
Is it recommended to use the most actual interface?
The new interface looks fine!

Is there a changelog for jb4 interface?

This really isn't that big of a deal. Just go to the appropriate sticky thread for your engine type, look at the default values, set them in the app and save. Done. The only thing lost from this is the automation, not the functionality.

Where do I get it? There are no posted version numbers either. Just "latest".

People should be able to reset it to exact factory defaults (interface settings page, steering wheel controls and learning) for the purpose of troubleshooting and/or reselling.

I always keep several versions for many reasons

If Terry doesn't post any older versions and if it's ok with him, I can share it

1) Reset To Default settings only changed the user adjustment page settings.

2) You can still get back to the exact factory user adjustment settings by simply looking at the appropriate sticky thread for your engine type and inputting those values into the user adjustment page. Then just click save and you're back to factory settings.

What about the JB4's learning and other information? How does one reset all of that?

What's the proper procedure for taking a used JB4, updating to the latest firmware, and resetting it back to as it would have come from the factory? I'd like the peace of mind when buying a used JB4 that I can set it up not to have data for someone else's car on it.

There is no process for that. You'd just manually reenter the default settings which includes default learned values.
