Default Boost in 2nd and possibly 1st gears? - 12-13-2021, 03:47 PM

Is there anyway to enable the boost addition in 1st and 2nd gears without running map 6? I realize 1st gear will just be mostly wheelspin with more than stock boost, but im planning on running some wider tires this spring and would have a good chance of maintaining traction in 2nd gear at least. I just installed my jb4 this weekend so I'm still new to this.. I'd be fine with just enabling map 1 levels of boost in 2nd gear at least.

Wait, what?
I'm not sure you're asking the right question. You only want to add boost in 1st and 2nd gear, not the rest, knowing that your going to spin.??
That's kinda how it's written.

-----------
Enable Map1
Log a WOT pull
If you're spinning bad because of RWD, we can reduce boost in 1st and 2nd to keep in on the ground.

Sorry, I meant enable extra boost beyond stock in 1st and 2nd in addition to all the other gears. Unless I'm missing something from the logs I tried the night I installed it, the jb4 only adds boost in 3rd gear and up corret? I'll post a log tonight when I get off work.

Boost is progressively added in all gears, from 1st through 8th.
Map 1 you will see up to 4psi, Map 2 5psi.
There is no need, or way, to add extra, on top of a built in map.

Ok, thank you for clearing it up. I must have missed something when I checked my log from 2nd gear. I'll go back and try to log some more pulls. I don't have any experience with piggyback tuners so I appreciate the help.

I suspect I hadn't let the engine temps come up enough because I tried 2nd gear, then drove around awhile before trying 3rd and 4th. Ive got skinnier than stock snow tires on so I really can't WOT 1st(I CAN but im jotnsure the log data would be worth anything) but ill do a 2-4 pull tonight and post the log.

Here is a map1 2nd and 3rd pull today. 93octane ethanol blend, log says 25 e85%. Without going out late at night, it's difficult to get away with a 4th gear pull and I tried 1st gear and it's just spinning after 2500rpm(skinny snow tires). I have a basic understanding of what the values are in the logs, I just don't have any frame of reference for what's good or bad outside of some basic things like an 11 or 12afr being good.

My mods are vellossatech snorkel, takeda closed intake, turbo inlet, borla catback, ngk spark plugs and jbr catch can.

I should add that I do have the fuel wire attached to the jb4 tuner.

Boost looks good, on row 19 you can see the boost build when you go WOT (ECU is seeing 11.1 and JB4 is seeing an actual 15.3). I do want to call out that your timing does not look great, lots of timing pull. I will say I have not looked at many Veloster N logs so might want someone with more experience with this engine to review

Can you elaborate more on the timing, like What would be "good" timings, because I thought they seemed a little high too based on what I could find here on the forum so I did a 3rd gear pull with map 0 yesterday too and was seeing about 3.8 which isn't much less than the 4.5 or so I seem to be getting with map 1.

Looks pretty normal....timing on map 0 and 1 are the same so I'm not seeing any concern there although if I was looking to push a bit more boost, I'd probably add some octane, maybe a couple gallons of E85 to a full tank if available.

Which timing columns are you looking at? I had been looking at ign2-4. Also, its hard to find any gas without about 10% ethanol blended in it since I live in the corn belt. The 91 and 93 octane ive logged with had 10% ethanol. E85 would be pretty easy to find too.

No problem with pump gas having E10, put in a couple gallons of E85 and then fill up with your E10 premium.

The cooling effect of E85 when blended with any premium fuel solves the majority of "tuning problems".

Modern turbo cars don't like knock, you'll never hear it anyway, the PCM is two steps ahead and overly aggressive with retard (timing pull).

Steve is right, adding a few gallons up to E20 makes a significant improvement in power.

Documented fuel economy is reduced 1-2% (E20-E40) but the power gained and improved drivability are worth it.

I'll run my tank down a bit so I can blend some e85 in and do some more logging. Luckily I've got access to E15,E30,and E85 close to my house for less than 87 octane pump gas(thanks state ethanol subsidies). I didn't lookup the E30 but E15 is only 88octane so ill just stick with mixing E85

All pump E85 is blended with 87 octane.

Now with that said, E30 would be better by a long way than 93.

Don't get caught up in octane ratings when it comes to E85, it's anywhere between 110-115. However it beats the pants off all gasoline based race fuels, it's not even close.

That is why when people want to make even more power and more in cylinder cooling they move to methanol, sometimes mixed with nitromethane.

The only fuel I found that gave the same performance is Sunoco GT-260+ which is 15% E85 mixed with 100 octane racing fuel.

from a price viewpoint, the E-blends are dirt cheap here in iowa so it'd save me tons of money over the year. I'll fill up with the E30 next time and do some logs. if my timings stay consistent or get better than the 93octane logs I'd be safe to just run E30 regardless of the supposed octane rating correct?

my concern is running too high of an ethanol blend long term since my car isn't flex-fuel certified. it's bad for the seals and fuel lines isn't it?

Shrug, my car has 56K on it and is just over a year old.

I have been running some level of E blend since I got it.

It started with Mike Botti's blog about his then new 2016 WRX

Further reading on DOE's E30 blend testing on a GDI Turbocharged vehicle (Ford Fiesta 1.0L 3 cylinder Ecoboost)

In your manual it should state up to 15% Ethanol blends, but that for the general public.

I've run up and over 50% with only a lean code. I run 20-40% nominally.

Dyno verified -

91 octane you are limited to Map 2, you can run Map 3,4,5 but it won't make any more power.

93 being only two points more octane, you aren't magically able to run Map 3 or higher either.

E30-E40 blend makes more power with Map 1 vs Gasoline (211 vs 222) and more power period (Map 2 = 216 vs Map 5 = 251).

It's not just kinda faster it's much faster.

35 hp gain for a few dollars LESS at fillup.
