2012 X5 N55 JB4 No communication, engine malfunction -

I just installed a JB4 in my friend's 2012 X5 35i, and for whatever reason, it is doing nothing at all. I verified that everything is connected, I am seeing voltage at both CAN wires, and the JB4 is properly grounded. When I start it, I get an "engine malfunction, reduced power" message on iDrive, and I have the following codes:
P0192 fuel rail pressure sensor A circuit low
P0299 turbocharger underboost
P112E MAP to throttle angle too low bank 1
P0420 catalyst efficiency (VRSF down pipe installed, I believe that's the cause of this one)
P12B9 Ambient Pressure Sensor Overrun Pressure Too High
Basically, these codes are for all of the sensors which the JB4 is attached to, pointing me to the issue being with the JB4 module. When I press the volume and channel down buttons on the steering wheel, nothing happens. When I try to connect to it on the JB4 program on my laptop, it just shows no communication.
Do I have a dud? The board is moving around in the enclosure, but I figured that was normal. I'd rather not tear everything apart again... he needs his car back and I don't want to keep working in this 100 degree heat!
