Default Disappointed - JB4 Stage1 to JB4 Tuner - 06-09-2022, 09:53 PM

2014 550i RWD - N63TU

I switched my stage 1 to the JB4 Tuner for my 550i, and my 0-60 and 1/8 mile times are slower.

Dragy has my stage 1 at 0-60 4.2 to 4.3. With the JB4 map 2 it's 4.4 to 4.5.

1/8 mile 8.0 to 8.2 at 89 vs 8.4 to 8.5 at 87 also map 2.

My 60ft is 1.98 to 2.0 with stage 1 vs 1.95 to 1.97 with the tuner, so there is some improvement there.

All same road, same launch technique and air temp.

My car seems to cut out just before each shift with the tuner. I think this most of the problem.

I plan to use the BCM and meth injection, so I'm not too worried. I know I'll get it tuned correctly, but the falling on its face just before shifts is annoying. Anyone experience this?

I'll do some logging and post here to see what's up, but my stage 1 seems to work much better right now.

Not enough octane for map 2 probably throw some e85 in the tank 2.5 gallons and 93 rest of the tank

Definitely an octane issue. It’s cutting timing to prevent knock. People seem to forget, more boost isn’t always a good thing. You need a balance between boost and timing for the best performance. Put it back on Map 1. I bet it’ll be faster.

I tried map 1 first. It's slower on the Dragy. About the same as map 2.

I will try more octane, thank you for the suggestion.

I put 10 gallons of 101 unleaded in this morning and tried maps 1 and 2 again.
Map 2 seemed a bit better.

I was seeing 0-60 in 4.2's and 8 flat 1/8 mile.

1/4 mile was consistent 12.60's at 111. Still doggy IMHO.

I bought the JB4 with the intent on adding alky injection and using the BCM anyway. The goal is high 11's and I think that is reachable.

Happier today. Thank you for your help.

Still hesitating on the JB4 after reading a few of these kind of posts. Looking for a perceptable bump that many guys relate when using this device on other BMWs and the opportunity to go back and forth from map #1 and #2.
My X5 is a 2021 M50i and wondering if it would respond in a better fashion than the older 4.4L motors. I'm not concerned about actual 0-60 and 1/4 mile metrics just want to feel more power.
Has the firmware for the current 50i engines been refined or updated.

If you are just going to use map 1 and 2, I would buy the stage 1 modules. It is honestly like my tuner's map 2. It really changed my car's performance, dragy verified.

If you want to start to tune for more performance with the BCM capability, WMI, 3 bar tmaps etc. get the tuner.

Default Sorted Out - Happy - 06-18-2022, 12:24 PM

After doing some logging and adjustments, I am very happy with the JB4 Tuner. I have the BCM option connected as well.

I'm running 101 octane and logging each map. I really like maps 5 and 3. Map 3 was cutting to map 4 because boost was reaching the safe limit. My targets and boost are lining up now after some wgdc and ff adjustments.

Much more power and finally got the 1/8th mile into the 7's at 91.

Afr and timing are safe and I feel like there is a lot more fun to be had with 3.5bar Tmaps and methanol.

Thank you, Terry.

Can you take a look at this log of maps 5 and 6? I am still having a flat spot between shifts. It looks like timing is flat lining in some cases and not recovering after shifts.
