Default "Best Safe Practice" for my setup - 02-07-2017, 01:54 PM

Hey all,

I've owned my 09' 335i from new and have been upgrading/boltons this last year.

Have the Sports Pkg and Dinan S2 currently.
Next week the JB4\MDH happens to replace it.

I have installed a
Wavetrac LSD
N54 "performance" ** No meow meow
Dinan CAI
Dinan Freeflow Exhaust
Suspension (Dinan Strut Brace\Sways front and rear w\bushings)

My Model has the OEM Intercooler\oil cooler

Anything I should be strongly recommended to get running pump gas (94 Chevron in BC\Canada)
Car has 111,000 Km on it. Did the walnut blast recently. Water pump.

Maybe a charge pipe?

Thanks!!

T

Yeah. I'm already thinking about meth!
So spring time I'll do the charge pipe and look at intercooler.
Saw some for under $300. Will have to research.

I think '09 is the year that the chargepipes became weak. I'd replace it and get a nice intercooler since you're on pump gas.

I am thinking about this from http://www.evolutionracewerks.com

Competition Series Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC) Kit
Finish: Type III Hard Anodized Black
BMW FMIC Packages: Full Kit
Diverter Valve Option: Forge Diverter Valve Upgrade Kit (Black)
Methanol Injector Bungs: Two (2) Methanol Injection Bungs

This would give me the Intercooler upgrade and the Chargepipe\DV

Did some searching but since "ER" is too short the search breaks.

Any commonly know issues\reviews on the ER setup?

ER chargepipes are awesome, I've had two (DV & BOV). The throttle body connection is exactly the same as OEM, never pops off

I'm reading the BOV's vs DV are just louder.
I'm leaning to the DV for simplicity and less spring hassle issues ive read about.
There's some mixed Meth safety "potential" issues as well down the road
(venting and ignition)

BOV= noisy and DV= stock more\less/

all pump gas here,

There really isn't too much difference between the two, I switched to a Tial BOV from Turbosmart DVs because I wanted a less-cluttered engine bay. The Tial BOV is pretty quiet, some other BOVs are much louder

DO NOT tune your car until you change the cp. Ive seen people literaly blow it up with more psi then stock.

Intercooler is a must, car will run 20-25 degrees cooler. Charge-pipe/BOV will have to be done, as factory plastic crap will go at some point. Not a question of IF, but when! My stock charge gave up the ghost a couple of years ago, switched to a Forge CP/BOV. Nice whoosh sound every time I shift gears, or slow down, as the BOV dumps the excess boost pressure.

I got an added bonus by upgrading the intercooler and oil cooler on my ride: I can now pull all the way to redline thanks to improved cooling. With the stock IC and oil cooler thr power dropped pretty radically at about 6,000 RPM.

Well I did it,
added the ER chargepipe with DV and FMIC with shroud.
so far so good.
I'm still just running MHD backend pump flash.

Below is a the log,
Run Map 2 mostly and hitting targets good.

next step?
is there a way to bump it more or is that what map 6 is for ?

Map 5 will "autotune" but is that really accurate?
is there a way to reset Map 5 to re-learn after upgrades?

I want more lower end boost.

Loaner while car was in the shop was a 2016 340i with M package.
me like the smooth power delivery.
