Default jb4 - surging, some shadow codes - 02-09-2020, 02:57 PM

Hey, I am new to the jb4 and farily new to the n54. My car seems to surge and not be that smooth. I have made adjustments and it is better but still seems like something may be off. I have adjusted menu 10 to 2000 and I have menu 12 set to 2700. I have been moving menu 12 around and it does not seem to change things. I have also been getting the 2D2E Angle of throttle valve - intake pipe underpressure, correlation codes. I have some logs I will post in hopes that someone can take a look and see if anything seem out of the ordinary. Also wondering is the 2D2E could be a boost leak? I have a new O ring on the way for the charge pipe.

Hey,

First off, welcome!

A couple things- you’ll want to enable 6cyl timing under user adjustments

Second, with your log posted- did you have traction control on / partial on?

Don’t think you have a boost leak either, FF is low & your pretty close to target.

Are you using our BEF?

Thank you for the reply. I set the 6cyl timing and it seems to be running better.

I was not 100% sure about the traction control on that last logs so I turned it off and have made more logs.

Currently I am not running a BEF, at least not one that I did, but the car did have some mods done to it when I bought it. Is there a way for me to tell if the previous owner did a BEF?

While driving the car today, it was raining and I had traction control on and the car seemed to surge in the mid rpm range while accelerating. Traction control was not kicking in but the car was still surging and running a bit rough. On the way home i wanted to get another log to post. I turned off traction control and the car seemed to run way better. I will post that log as well but is traction control making the car surge even when it is not kicking in? Do I always need to have traction control off?

i have menu 10 set to 2000 and have been moving menu 12 around between 2400 and 2800. Right now menu 12 is set to 2800.

The car is still surging at times and seems to be running rough at times. Other times it seems fine. Not really sure what is happening but I am going to upload a screen shot of codes and some more logs in hopes of figuring out what is going on.

I am also going to do a BEF tonight and see if that helps.

Flash the appropriate flash for your mods / fuel.

Got the BEF done and have some logs to share.

I have one log of mid range rpm running in 4th gear where to car not running smoothly and it seems like I may have caught it in the logs. I am very new to all of this so forgive me it this does not add up, but in the logs you can see the the pedal is fairly stable but the throttle is all over the place. When this is happening the car does not feel smooth.

Also when the car is warming up, once it hits the 160 oil temp but before it at normal operating temp the car seems to surge. Once I get to normal operating temp it seems to smooth out a bit. I may have a lot of that but will have to dig through them to find the right one.

Looks like your last safety was overboost.

You can bump your boost safety up to 20

I will set the boost safety to 20.

It is still surging, but not all the time. Seems sporadic and worse after the car hits 160 oil temp but before it hits normal operating temp.

I am also still trying to figure out what is happening at mid RPM range when the car feels like it is misfiring. When I look at that log the pedal is fairly steady but the throttle is all over the place. When I graph that, the throttle jumping up and down is how it feels when I am driving it. That log is from my post on 02-14-2020 10:43 PM

Here is another example of the car running really rough at times. Can someone people graph this log and help me resolve this issue? I am guessing it is not normal for the pedal to be fairly consistent while the throttle is all over the place.

Bump. Really starting to question my decision to buy the jb4 and MHD backend. Car is still running rough, jerky. Feel like I am getting very little support.

Just to confirm your JB4 with the BEF - you set your wheel settings to 4/2, correct?

With your menu 11 set to 0, you could try incrementally bumping that up a tad as well

I will have to double check wheel setting 4/2. I will post back on that soon.

Menu 11 is set to 0. When you say bump a tad, what do you consider a tad?

Often time the care does perform at WOT, but other times it seems that the power drops away and then comes back, like surging or jerky. This surging/jerky feeling often happens when I get on the throttle but not wide open, say 80%. I have posted a couple of logs that i got while it was jerky, when it was not WOT, the last one you can even see it in the rpms.

Also got a SES light today when i got a Angle of Throttle code. I get that code everyday and once in a while it throws the SES light.

Here is another log that I just got where it was jerky at low RPMs.
When looking at the throttle and pedal, the pedal is consistent but the throttle is very jumpy.

Wheel 4 is set to 2

I bumped up menu 11 to 200.

It is raining out so very little WOT but the little bit i did do felt smooth.

Little info on the car:
135K miles
new HPFP
new LPFP
new index 12 injectors
new plugs
new coils

walnut blast 1k miles ago.
